Wally Lewis got called a wanker by thousands of people in unison all the time.
Aussies are no where near as racist as claimed. We are tall poppy hunters though and if you excel, especially in sport, we’ll go after you to gain some sort of advantage.

I think the difference is that Lucy got booed coz he was an ex Tiger who bailed on the club after downing tools then bashed his Mrs.

The Collingwood fans we're not booing an ex player. They were booing Buddy coz he's Aboriginal, like they did to Goodes. There's a huge racist undertone in Melbourne/AFL

I disagree from a personal point of view....

I boo Adam Goodes because he was an amazing player who played for another team....I couldn't give two hoots who they are personally, what background they have....Goodes kicks a winning goal or makes a huge play against the Pies as a Pies fan am I going to cheer?
I don't think so.
Luch got booed because he proved himself to be a low human

There is no way a huge collective of people are booing an individual due to his skin colour.
That is victim mentality bullshit and if you believe it to be true, you are part of the problem.
They are booing them because they are good players first and foremost, and additionally they don’t like them due to some on field incidents or attacks on their club.

The AFL is the most racist sport in Australia. They have had continued issues with fans treatment of their indigenous players for many years and they have not taken any productive steps to stop it.

If these things happened in the NRL the media would have a field day.

Unfortunately two things,

1 - the mainstream media give too much airtime to minority woke groups (although I don't really know what woke means except when you open your eyes from sleeping).

2 - the youth of today don't have the mental resilience to deal with criticism & booing it seems. Back in the day, you'd use it as motivation, today they use it to whinge & complain.

But imo he's inciting the opposition crowd...it was pretty agressive Not much different to Jerome Luai flipping opp fans the bird.

He didn't help himself here imo... Many will say he should be able to do what he wants... I don't know where that line is any more

What Adam Goodes went through was absolutely disgusting sportsmanship at its worst.

My recollection was the first link to Goodes booing was that he had done an interview where he had mentioned the racism he went through as a young kid- Goodes has always behaved well with the crowd and was overall a pretty nice guy around 2005-2007 but the booing was incited by an interview and him calling out people. Then it just got worse and worse

It all came to a head when a young girl called him a big ape or words to that effect....he called her out at the ground and it all went from there. Eddie Mcguire dropped some ridiculous comment on his radio show and it escalated further.

Gee I feel so sorry for the poor bastard, NOT , I came to Australia from Britain and all throw school I was called a pommy bastard and a $10 wanker , the Italians were called WOGS the Chinese were called slops , but we never complained we just got on with our lives , poor buddy got called a few names while making millions , I wish none of us got called names but the rest of us had to live with it while a certain few got pampered not fair

Mate through my work I get called racist names every single day, and as per official expectations it is called "occupational hazard"

By coincidence, I watched The Australian Dream on foxtel last nigh, about the Adam Goodes story. Worth a watch if you have time.

My personal take is:
The booing was racially based.
It came after Goodes called out the 13 year olds racist comment and the started making a stand against racism. From there pack mentality took over and the booing escalated
Eddie Maguire inflamed it with his ignorant radio comments.

It drove Goodes out of the game.

Cannot believe Maguire and Sam Newman still have public profiles after their actions.

In both codes of footy there are probably hundreds of professional indigenous players. If one indigenous player is being booed and 99 indigenous players aren't being booed, chances are the one is not being booed on the basis of being indigenous.
