Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

But have we truly paid overs in recent years, or just paid what was owed him for taking unders in earlier years?
Not getting any younger, he is far from old. In fact he is at what should be his peak age. If were valuing him on age this should be his highest valued contract.
No idea what his expectations are but not sure how the club could expect him to take less than 600k.
I expect him to because he's basically stolen hundreds of thousands the last 4 years by not performing any where near the required level until the last month when surprise surprise it's new contract time

You'd probably have to pay $650 or so for Flannagan. Good halves don't come cheap!
That's absurd. You think a player who's failed at NRL level, largely a NSW Cup playmaker/backup for first grade will be getting a substantial payrise?? I think it's far more likely that his pay would get slashed dramatically given how he's flopped at the dogs. Would be shocked if he got more than 250-300k absolute max for his next contract.
I would even have someone like Wakeham on par or even ahead of him, and he's a minimum wage player, who might get a small payrise for next season.

Can’t believe I am saying this but I would go for Jordan Rankin before I would consider Flanagan 😳

The issue is in our halves and we must recruit to solve the issue, keeping the existing whilst not recruiting for alternate will only exacerbate the problem.

Has not the problem been getting the ball from our forwards (doing a good job) to our backs (doing a good job when they get the ball) to finish it? PLays within 20 metre of the opposition try line too often break down with errors / wrong decisions by the halves. THis is not new to WT and has been a consistent problem over the years of Brooks.

We need to recruit at least 1 x new #7 halfback and 1 x new #6 already capable of playing State Cup and on the cusp of NRL to put competition there in the halves. I accept there is a dearth of good 7s on the market and that a reasonable extension offer should be made to both Brooks and Wakeham, but we should not over commit to Brooks. First, we have to announce some signings for 24 especially a 7 & 6.

If we can jag a left field solution like an ESL halfback or trade for someone in the NRL that would be a good alternate.

If rumours are true about Talau going to Manly next season, Averillo would be an ideal replacement.

He would be in the top 10 fastest players in the NRL, has become a very good centre this season and would provide us a backup fullback (along with Staines) and five-eighth during games if required.

Depends I suppose if Fulton would rather chase Koula!

I don't think we need any centres if I'm honest. Feledy replaces Talau in the top 30, meaning he's already been replaced. our depth chart will be

1. To'a
2. Naden
3. Kepaoa
4. Feledy
5. Reilly

To'a's turned into a right side specialist, Naden providing he sorts his shit out is serviceable and Feledy is going to be a first grader potentially by the end of this year. Reilly's development continues to progress and Kepaoa is our centre/back rower type.

Averillo won't be short of suitors but I'd look at him as a utility. covers fullback, centre and the halves. would be great to have as a replacement for Laurie, providing we re-sign Brooks and Wakes and sign a halfback, whoever that may be. other guys you could look at to fill that role could be Taaffe, Ben Hampton or even Kaeo Weekes.

FRIZELL TO STAY

Veteran forward Tyson Frizell has all but confirmed he will re-sign with the Knights amid speculation he could be forced out.

There was a report a couple of weeks ago revealing the Wests Tigers were interested in Frizell’s services, however the 31-year-old told Zero Tackle he “will” remain at the Knights, where he is “very happy and comfortable.”

Frizell, who earnt an Origin recall for NSW in game one, is coming off contract at the end of the season but he has no interest in signing anywhere else — especially after purchasing a new home in Newcastle.

“Yeah, I will (remain at the Knights),” Frizell said.

“I’m very happy and comfortable where I am... and my future will hopefully sort itself out, and hopefully, I guess, sooner rather than later.”

“I think any player that goes through it when we’re off contract at the end of the year and potentially other clubs that are interested in you,” he added when asked about the rumours regarding his future.

“All you can control is what you do on the field, and it’ll all take care of itself.

“(There is) no pressure at all. I guess if people are talking about it, it’s probably a good thing, so it doesn’t bother me whatsoever.”
So why the hell did we shaft joffa , talk about putting the cart before the horse, crazy shit

Moses has not been at Parramatta for 8 years, nor has he been a Top 30 player in the NRL at large for 10 years.

He played Harold Matts with Parramatta, before being signed by the Tigers and playing SG Ball, Jersey Flegg, NSW Cup and then onto First Grade. If that qualifies as Parramatta 'developing him' then I'll stand corrected.

So, arrogant wording aside, excuse me if I'm not too impressed with being corrected by someone who is not only incorrect, but can't even be bothered spelling 'Frizzel' or 'Korisau' correctly.

It also wasn't the point of the original post.

You didn't know the rules. You don't do research. Pipe down and stop spreading misinformation and lies. Do you work for News Corp by any chance?

Telegraph has updated its story on McDonnell leaving with quotes from him ...

“Scott and I are entirely different people,” McDonnell said.

“We work in different ways and deal with people differently. It was never going to work but I take great pride in what we have achieved at the Tigers.

“The club has never been in better shape. We have recruited some quality players and we have some great kids coming through.

“The club is set up for long term success and I take great pride in the role I played in that.”

These comments are ridiculous.
Have seen a few around if brooks was decent bloke.
500k with the cap increase would struggle to get you a top 13 player these days let alone a half.

As if you would do that. Walk into your current employer in the current economy and where the cap had a massive increase and say hey can you take 20% off.

Why expect someone else to do so.
What's happened in the past with Brooks contract is past or almost .
In offering a new deal he can't be expected to return some of it via discounting his new contract rather if he can maintain his form offer a reasonable market value but no more 4 years ! IMO 2 years at $1.3 mill is fair 650k pa .Brooks should feel a bit grateful as the club ( if not all the fans ) has shown tremendous loyalty to him thru long periods where he was not in good form !
I think he's playing very well lately and would like him to stay !

Apologies, he has played for 10 years in the NRL, so he does qualify on that front. You're correct.

I do know the rules and I do plenty of research, thank you.

I was correct in what long-serving player allowance is. It took me 15 minutes to try and find the updated information yesterday before I posted that in fact. Furthermore, considering the post was for 2024, there is no current information I could find for projections for the 2024 long-serving player allowance, so had to use figures from 2023.

I was correct in what the rule is, it's stipulations and dollar value to the club.
I was correct in his time at Parramatta.
I was correct in his junior footy involvement.

What I did do was overlook the fact that it had been 10 years since his debut and you have rightly corrected me. I am genuinely surprised it has been that long.

You're needlessly combative here and I'm a little confused as to why.

And once again, whether Mitchell Moses is eligible for the long-serving player allowance or not was not the focus of the original post. If you would like me to adjust the numbers for you, just let me know. Seems a weird thing to nit-pick.

It's hardly 'spreading misinformation and lies' my friend.
