Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

What I will never understand is with Nofo being so bad at this point in time.
The bloke will though we lose week after week still be selected for the top grade.
He should be dropped.
But because like with another player weve let leave the club, we will keep playing these players because they are being paid big money, nothing to do with winning or losing, we have to have them in the top side because of how much we pay for them, so we just have to lump it.

But the ordinary supporter would be dropping the player not performing and promoting the best winger from reserve grade, and saying forget what it cost, we want to win.

The average club would have a reserve grade winger. We don't.

Would any club pay Nofo 300k per season ? I can't see it happening. I reckon we have to wear it until some kid comes through and deserves the spot. What we can't have is coaches who won't pick the kid because we could end up in a situation like losing Koro or JAC.
Apart from Super League, the only clubs that may consider Nofa are:

- Eels (lacking depth in outside backs & a 2nd starting winger)
- Knights (with Dom Young heading to Roosters)
- Dolphins (probably have the cap room & may see the benefit in experience)

At this point we need to bite the bullet and pay
part of his salary to play elsewhere. He's been
a good club man but loyalty means nothing in sports these days, only the fans stay loyal.
I'd be tapping him on the shoulder ASAP
Two options.... pay him good money to play reserve grade and have him as a back up option.... or pay part of his wage the next two years and let someone else take him...

Yep Eels and Knights....

Dolphins, no way. Wayne Bennett would ignore him and Wayne has a stack of local talent.
Brisbane maybe if Wayne Steals Corey Oates.

Tupou - 18 games, 22 try causes, 27 line break causes, 22 errors, tackle efficiency - 56%

Nofa - 14 games, 12 try causes, 12 line break causes, 11 errors, 73% tackle efficiency

Brian To'o- 18 games, 6 try causes, 18 line break causes, 15 errors, 66% tackle efficiency.

Seems Nofas defence this year isn't far off Too the best winger in the game in the best defensive side in the game

Not saying Nofa is great but the vitriol he gets on here is silly.

Fair point. we may be judging Nofa on past years... Where his wing defense was AWFUL.

Tupou has let us down several games. AJ and others too. Would love to do a whole backline breakdown.

Naden who cops flack here was the worst defender at the Bulldogs, but had better defensive stats then all of our backline.

Brian Too hasn't been at his best this year IMHO. 2022 he was insanely powerful.

I would be interested to see how they judge the "try causes" stat.

Nofo is no where near as bad defensively as some make out. Yes he without doubt comes up with some shockers here and there, but many many times he gets blamed for a try down his side but the mistake actually came from our edge backrower or half, and the issue filtered out. I have no doubt that a lot of the tries he is blamed for can be broken down to the backrower making the mistake.

I'm not looking to stick up for him, he has issues, just trying to balance it with reasonable truth.

I will put this in here, it's a decent read.

Wests Tigers NRL news: Api Koroisau reflects on 'difficult' Panthers transition amid wooden spoon battle

Liam O'Loughlin

Api Koroisau has admitted his transition from back-to-back premierships to a wooden spoon was harder than he anticipated, with the Wests Tigers captain staring down the barrel of a long-term rebuild.

The 30-year-old left Penrith in the off-season and moved to Concord on a two-year deal, before further extending his stay in the middle of his first campaign in black and gold.

Koroisau has been among the club's best performers, but with just three wins from 20 games, the Tigers are now on the verge of a second-straight 17th-placed finish.

Despite signing the likes of Isaiah Papali'i and John Bateman, as well as adding a new coaching duo of Tim Sheens and Benji Marshall, Wests have struggled for any level of consistent performance during the 2023 season.

Tigers captain Api Koroisau reflects on Panthers transition

Speaking to the media prior to the side's Round 24 clash with the Warriors, the classy hooker was honest about the challenges he faced moving from the Panthers to the Tigers.

“It took quite a bit out of me to start," he said.

"I sort of came to realise that I’m not at the same place that I was. There’s a lot that needs to be done in this place and I’m taking that challenge head-on.
"I’ve sort of shifted my mentality to more growth around the place, rather than try to sustain a high-level and high-performance thing... it’s been good, but it’s taken a bit to get used to as well.

“The challenge was there, I knew it was when it was presented to me. I didn’t think it was going to be this difficult I guess, to sort of get up there and knowing the position that we’re in.
"I’ve learned so much this year and I’m still learning to this day and I’m really looking forward to the challenge of rebuilding this club."

Will the Wests Tigers make the NRL finals in 2024?

Amid the lacklustre form on the field, Tigers fans have continued to clamour for success, with their last finals berth coming in 2011 and no sign of improvement on the horizon.

When quizzed on whether or not the current squad can develop into a top-eight side, Koroisau made no promises and believes there is a long way to go before the Tigers compete for a premiership.

“To be honest, I haven’t even though that far ahead – a lot of it has been getting us week-to-week and how we need to improve on the field," the skipper said.

"There’s little things in our game, like our discipline, that we haven’t really focused on enough. At the end of the day, it’s an inexperience thing and it’s just something that we’re gonna have to fix over the coming years.

“I wouldn’t say it was easy at Penrith, but there was a lot of elite players there who were taking a lot of the load and sharing it between themselves - whereas here, we have such a young and inexperienced team.

"Coming together as a team and learning how to play together is something, and learning how to win is another thing.

"It’s all a work in progess, but I see steps forward for sure."
There have been some positives during the year, with the club debuting the likes of Jahream Bula and Tallyn Da Silva, but there are still major changes necessary for the Tigers to compete with the NRL's heavyweights in 2024.

Thanks for posting this genuinely excellent article 851 👍
I have a problem with it though.
Balmain and Wests have been amalgamated since 2000...23 years.
I would have thought by now the slack arses who write this stuff would f'n well know our club colours include WHITE.

Is there stats for him standing in no mans land waiting for an intercept while leaving an overlap everytime?

Wasn't always a fan but has been pretty good for 3 or 4 years now.

Congrats to Noffa for 100 tries for the club...........no mean feat considering from JT forward our attacking structures have been poor. I also dislike his non direct running at times but I feel it is a product of a flat three quarter line who gives poor service. Put him on the end of a decent backline and he is a quality finisher.

Also never shirks it for the tough carries.

Bellamy thought so.

His loyalty has to be considered since he stuck solid during Issacs and Benny's attempt to first destabilise the club. The club lacks one team players and if we are to pursue a pathways approach it is an important signal to aspirants that we look after our own.

If his time is up perhaps the club could consider an ambassadorial role with junior pathways which could be a win win.

Topou cost us the dragons game unfortunately with his unforced 1st tackle play the ball error and has been a contributor to other losses with errors and mistakes under the high ball.

But he is green and l believe he will come good.

But when talking wingers gotta have perspective.

I think Nofo is a hard player to like.

He's the top try scorer ever for our club.
Throughout his career, he should've been considered one of the best wingers of all time.

It would appear that he's the only one who actually ever thought that and alas, he is one I think hasn't and will never truly reach his potential.
