Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

On Laurie, i think Sheens was trying to play him at 5/8 a few games before he eventually did but he was unable to start him due to an injury and then a concussion. We were forced then to play Toa, Smith and Wakeham in the halves during those weeks.
Before that it was Laurie’s form and his attitude whilst in reggies where they were giving him some time at 5/8, that held him back.

Is it possible the board have too much to say about team selection and recruitment?
I kinda agree.

This isn't the board though. This is Sheens, it's actually smart Sheens.

So Bula > Laurie. I think the entire forum would agree. Look I love Laurie too, many hate him but I reckon he could have been an awesome club player.

Laurie gets NR1 for 3 games and it's realised Laurie's ball return meters are way down. I.e. he is too slow picking up the ball and returning it to play. So Laurie gets punted for Bula.

Bula performs. Laurie gets left in the wilderness, naturally gets' pissed off. Remembe were going to hire Moses to pair with Brooks!

Our halves get injured, Laurie gets brought back in as 5/8. Hasn't set the world on fire there but I see real potential. Penrith will love him as a Bench half.

None of this is the boards doing. The board can own the awful Nofo deal, the board can own not having a long term strategic plan, the board can own taking far to many years to expand into the overcrowded concord area...

The board dinnit do this, Sheens did. Picking Bula though was the right decision. Miracle magic 8 ball would be to move Laurie to 5/8 and encourage him within the team.

He was given the FB posi for two years and proved to everyone he was shite at it.
But yes he should have been given a go at 5/8 in ressies long before cutting him.
I still don’t reckon he’s the answer.
Not shite... (Laurie at Fullback)

Lacking in areas. Kick return meters was a big callout.
His height IMHO would discourage me from putting him at the back. While he can leap, it means he is at a fair disadvantage.

Laurie could cross the line. 2022 he had a very decent season for us with a very poor team.
Could really have seen Marshall work with him as a 5/8.

100% it highlights how poor our halves have been, and for a very long time too
What about our CEO?

For a much longer time!!

With this mutt's famed executive judgement he'll soon be announcing Wests Tigers have purchased the Sydney Harbour Bridge from a reputed seller (with money we saved from not using our full salary cap)!!

And Lee will tell the idiot SEN listeners on his paid PR spot that we have a legally binding contract - and plan to play one game there every year!

Yes - SHITE!!

I'm still a bit confused in that who has the Ultimate say on who we recruit and also who we retain ? Is it Lee H or Justin P or Tim S or Benji M or Scott Fulton ?
Decisions have been made like the weak offer to Brooks was a bit like deciding they didn't want to retain .Laurie was obviously one we wanted to go .
Joffa was released against his will and Talau was probably mutual .
Point is these moves are based on decisions to want or not want .
With recruitment its partly not up to us with my guess that numerous approaches have been met with a negative response but also read Fulton wanting this one and Benji that one.
My concern is weve recruited two Fainu Bros who we really don't quite know how they will handle the big jump to NRL level and Sullivan who was never a first pick halfback where he was .Maybe also Sezer a veteran but don't know if this is confirmed .Most clubs with a strong reserve grade side have a few graduating to 1st grade as future stars but seems our reserve grade side offers nothing much which is supported by the fact that none are being trialled in Nrl this late in season . I also doubt Douehi will play next year so all in all
I can't see us having a stronger team next year .

Anybody still think that paying 750K and a transfer of 200k for Batman was worth it, has had 2 good games, he is COOKED, his body language and play on the weekend was well below average, and saying at least he tries hard doesn't cut it. To be earning that type of money, your elite in that position, what a waste
Been a total waste of money, absolute dud, yet joffa is running around in an eels team, if anyone can figure this joint out please tell me

We have 6 players contracted for 2024 that at best would be considered unlikely future regular first graders
- Kepoa
- Tumeth
- Simlpkin
- Matamua
- Rua
- Reilly

I’d be hopeful we don’t carry too many of these into 2024 if we are going to improve
Tumeth like a few of our younger players will be in the 30 due to interest from other clubs. In the NRL trial games Tumeth handled the transition well and defended strongly. He is very early in his career and young forwards take time to mature. As I wrote previously, we expect too much from our young players, especially our forwards who will take time to mature.

Joe O is a middle forward and we have too many of them. Bateman is an edge forward. He hasn't been great though especially for a big dollar player.

Can’t agree on this , Bateman Leads by example , tackles his arse off and takes the dirty hit ups straight into there forwards wearing them down , yes you can see disappointment in his face sometimes but he doesn’t drop his bundle , well worth every cent and hopefully as mentioned the young guys follow his lead ,

Laurie should not have had to play Reggie’s , Wakeman should have , Laurie would have been much better straight into the top grade months ago

And that's what it's all about. Setting the example for our kids coming through. It's a big difference having Bateman, Klemmer etc to look to as opposed to Bj and Jimmy the jet etc. The kids coming through will benefit greatly from these guys and will hopefully set us up for future years.
