Soccer Super Thread

Much better second half and despite us going close on occasion, the better team won and exposed a few frailty’s .
But a great effort by the ladies and semi finals of a World Cup a huge achievement.
Hope they can lift, change to a more attacking formation and beat Sweden on Sunday.
That would be a nicer finish than going out on tonight’s result.
Well done Tillies and thanks for the excitement and national pride you gave us.
 
As a casual, the correct side won.
Australia have done well but the way they played on Saturday and tonight showed they aren’t a great side for mine.
Poms looked good.
 
I just hope that Tilli-mania doesn't end now. It is great to be on the bandwagon, but for women's football (and men's too, for that matter, in Australia) to continue to thrive, there has to be better marketing of the game, particularly in that step up from junior level. The number one sports for team sports for kids in Australia is football (aka soccer) so a huge nursery to pick from. In terms of the game, England were the more skillful team, with experience, and generally an all round balanced team. Add a certain level of cynic football - when and where to commit a foul; when to take the ball to the corner post etc - and this puts it all into perspective. But the Aussie girls gave 100% and no one can ask for more than that. Perhaps the occasion got the better of most (if not all) of them. They can held their heads up high.
 
When all is said and done Australia always punches well above it's weight when it comes to sport.Soccer is only the 3rd football code in the country behind Rugby League and AFL and only ahead of the KFC code Rugby Union.The women/girls did an amazing job representing a country of only 26 million in a code that is number 1 in most of the world against countries with far larger populations and far more interest than we have in it.
They did themselves and the country proud,kudos to them all
 
Its always hard for a team from a country where soccer is the No 3 football code to beat a team from a country where not only soccer is the No 1 football code but the English Premier Leagues both Men and Women are clearly the worlds biggest leagues !
That said well done Matilda 's !
When their Quarter final went 100mins ( incl time on) plus 30 mins plus the shoot out making about a 2 and a half hour epic I felt then that backing up a few days later will be difficult.
 
Ashamed to be a United fan at the moment. Mason Greenwood by all reports will be allowed to play again & it's just a disgraceful decision, he is a disgusting human & does not deserve anything like this.

Without knowing all the fine detail( I understand the suggested offence) isn’t the fact that all charges were dropped sufficient to allow him to play ?
This has happened in our competition and we move on but interested to know if you feel there are extenuating circumstance in relation to this matter.
As you may know I am a Spurs fan so just raising this as a football fan in relation to your post.

Have you seen the audio recording & pictured evidence? the evidence is pretty damning & this is a classic case of someone not being able to leave their abuser. He is a disgusting human being.
 
Well I have never been a soccer fan but I have been watching the Matilda’s games. I admit I have zero idea of the finer points of the game and the games seem to go on forever, especially the one the other night with the shoot out after extra time. I may not have understood everything but the effort & team spirit was evident.
We may not have won but I was so proud of the girls and proud of Australia for getting behind them. I will be cheering them for the next game, it may not be the final but it is still a huge achievement for the Matildas & Australia.
Hope the girls can get the win but I hope it doesn’t go to extra time & shoot outs, most Wests Tigers fans already have enough stress from close finishes.
