Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I have no idea but it's an interesting footy topic. Galvin looks like a really big kid but he is also extremely skillful. I think looking at his frame he is too small in relation to being skinny and he might get smashed playing lock. Can he tackle ? Could he handle long periods in the middle of the park ?

I suppose I figure play him in reserve grade and experiment with various positions and see how he develops.
Junior Jaw is a pretty big kid and handles the no7 role with ease. Early days but I see Galvin as potentially the best of the bunch

I’ll try change the subject cause seems like this thread is turning into a general info thread.

Does anyone see Lachlan Galvin as a potential 13 in the future as a ball playing lock?

If both Fainu and Sullivan perform or even if we nab Luai he may struggle locking down a spot. He’s listed at 195cms at the age of 18. Probably still growing. That could add a different dimension to our attack with his playmaking abilities in the middle.

I haven’t watched him that closely, so anyone that might’ve what are your thoughts?

When I lookst him now I can't help but think of Mitch Moses class possibly go a few steps ahead of him.

If that happens he will stay in the halves in saying that he is a larger than Mitch Moses so it's guess work where he will end up.

Funny I didn't see Mitchell Moses pull on our jersey. Getting deals done is our issue not coaching.

so now we gunna blame the players we don’t get?

here is a novel concept … if you think you don’t have adequate depth in the halves .., don’t move one on ..wait until the replacement is signed first …

Oh we have plenty of depth, we just don't have first grade stars.

I’d prefer him on an edge. gives him the opportunity to pick apart opposition defences much like he has thru his junior days.

there’s a plethora of ways you could use him 3 or 4 wide and run shape off him as opposed to playing him thru the middle and forcing him to make 30+ tackles a game and be a link man when you already have Kit and Tame Havea coming thru who possess the size and skill already on both sides of the ball, whereas Galvin would have to develop that.

if you look at Matamua’s career up to this point, his biggest issue is he doesn’t have the ability in contact on both sides of the ball you need at 13. Galvin, in my view, would be similar. back row is his future.

It really depends on fitness levels and how he holds up defensively. Could lead down that path but could also end up as a center or be 1st choice in the halves. The kid has a huge amount of upside just hope the club has a clear view and go at that view consistently with him.

Risk I see is he becomes another AD with utility value which long term impacts the benefits he could provide

Serious question, has he played against men yet?

The one he moved on took us to last place. Then was in a ding dong battle to retain his spot up against Adam Clune and Pheonix Crossland (made the finals at Knights because he had a superstar in his team - my point). Some of you blokes would probably celebrate signing that pair too lol
That is just not true, Hastings was injured and that is the only reason Clune and Crossland came in to the halves, if Hastings never got hurt he would have played every game

The question you have to ask is, how dose he and his management think about it. Considering the value of a six or seven is considerably more than most other positions. Also he seems to be in demand out there .

Been plenty of talk he will end up in the backrow, but for now I think 6 or 7 is what is goal is.
Understandable - I reckon his management care more about what’s gonna get him regular FG appearances though. Who’s to say in 4-5 years time if he makes the transition and becomes one of the leagues best 13’s that he can’t make 800k-1 mil a season.

The way the game is developing and treading 13’s are about to be super super valuable - especially ball playing ones. They’re pretty much a 3rd halve and especially with how Benji wants to play with a focus on attack and throwing the ball around he’d be positioned pretty well.

He’ll have halves next to him with plenty of flair, if he can provide some extra space at first receiver for Latu and Sullivan they’ll thrive as they both have excellent running games and footwork with eyes up footy.

He’ll also have second rowers with plenty of attention on them - people forget how good Ice’s hole running is and Bateman can also hit good lines but both couldn’t showcase that with Wakeham/Brooks.

Combine all that with one of the best 9’s in the game in Api giving early service and probably some extra space with his craftiness out of the ruck and then a fullback in Bula who primes his game on effort plays and support running around the ruck too.

I think if he was to make the transition he’d be in a good spot to showcase his skills/ball playing abilities.

Because they were flying along in 14th after 18 rounds when Ponga caught fire??

So keep NRL depth halves …don’t give one away
Agree to disagree, we need to continue to chase that 'game changing' player (Sheens called them Ferrari's early last year), whether that be via recruitment or development, he went after Moses (then Munster, then Johnson, then Croft lol) and it didn't come off. Without A grade cattle, you're screwed.

We are going around in circles .,.. don’t complain about the depth you are left with when you give away an NRL quality half still under contract ….

Wait to you sign the replacement first before you give the NRL depth away,,,

Sheens chose to put all his eggs in the Douehi basket… not real bright given his injury history,,.

These poor decisions got him a paid holiday in 2024, and the club another wooden spoon..

Happy to get off the merry-go-round here. Until we sign some elite talent to complement Api, we'll continue to burn through coaches - good, bad or indifferent.

Will we sign anyone whilstever our leadership is a joke? No.

Ive already said here several times so far this offseason… this team has won 4 games last year and so far they are binging back the same side less Brooks for 2 rookies basically,,,

They seem unable to move on their underachievers… although other teams (Bulldogs ) can do it with ease…

They have signed no one new in months …and prospects don’t look great at this exact moment of new prospects …

Their outside backs are the worst and slowest in the competition

I still expect a couple of changes but they are unlikely difference makers …

If anyone expects more than 7-8 wins and a finish above 15th .., they are dreaming,,,that is the ceiling and probably beyond them but I live in hope…

Benji will get two years …the expectations couldn’t be lower for 2024…
