Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Didn't really want to lose Blore but if he has definitely signed with Storm for 2025 then I can't see the point in keeping him in 2024.

Why not give some of the up and comers a crack in first grade and if Blore is as injury prone as some suggest, why risk a Doueihi like situation and possibly waste a top 30 position for the year.

Is there some way we could do a swap deal with the Storm and take Olam for the year with a club option for the remainder of his 2025/2026 contract if things look like they could possibly work out, otherwise it reverts back to the Storm.

Of course we wouldn't want to pay full freight for any of Olam's current 2025/2026 contract and the starting point for 2024 would be that Storm pay Olam's contract and we pay Blores contract with maybe a little sweetener one way or the other.
You have to have a guy who’s ready for FG or the losing cycle is only prolonged further. Blore has been very disappointing for us in terms of availability but when he’s there he can handle FG.

We have waited a year for Ice and Api… and are prepared to do the same for Luai and AFB…why cant we be on the other side of that in respect of keeping Blore?

how motivated is Olam going to be coming here for likely 1 year ? He gets paid regardless of how he plays …this is the problem you have with signing guys to long term deals at the end of their playing careers …

A lot of people rated Olam because clowns like A Johns used to gush over him all the time…”strongest looking bloke in the world” “ no one has ever hit harder” “made out of solid granite” etc etc…what I often saw was a very physical bloke who possessed only a rudimentary idea of how to play footy. Opposing 5/8ths, fullbacks and centres worked him out. I don’t think he lost his nerve or confidence as much as superior players nullified his impact and effectiveness.
Johns glazes over overrated players all the time. It's frustrating. Olam had a very poor and inconsistent year (partly due to injuries) but he's not going to get better coming to a bottom side. Better to invest in juniors or sign an in form or potentially damaging centre on the market when the opportunity becomes available

Here we have one of the sooks who fell for it lol.
You’re such a pussy lestrange🤣
lol oh mate , you have no idea who youre talking to . But if you want to go around calling randoms pussies, like the Neanderthal you constantly confirm yourself being .. go for it champ . Im very content in my masculinity . Oh and I’ve never fallen for a rumour on here champ . Commented on the idea of it … sure why not! It’s a forum…. Geez youre a bit of battler aren’t you buddy ?

It would be for 3 years not 1

the only thing I am rather curious about is whether or not Luai had declared he planned to accept our offer and that kicked in the 10 day period nearly a fortnight ago… feel like that would’ve leaked if it was the case? but not entirely sure
Yeah me too. Though as I pointed out with the Capewell deal there was a fair bit of talk in the early part of the first week then went quiet for at least seven days. With Luai around the time that we presented him with an offical offer, there was talk about releasing him now then that got shut down and things went quiet for a week until Penrith started talking about renegotiating with him once he returned to training. Alongside that you have his teammates and the group CEO giving him their blessing to leave. Surely something kicked that off?!?

Something that I don’t think that anyone has mentioned is that Olam is managed by Sam Ayoub.

Can mean a few things for us … no way will Olam accept any less than current contract or duration unless Storm come to the party.

Nofa managed by Ayoub too so possibly Ayoub is working overtime to get Nofa a deal elsewhere to enable us to take Olam absorbing more of his current salary than we probably would.

As much as a salary cap thing, I think it’s sn optics thing for us. As long as another club pays a satisfactory amount for Nofa (I’m guessing $250k pa) & Storm contribute a satisfactory amount for Olam ($200k pa), we will do it.

A question is, which club does Ayoub have a big ‘in’ with to persuade to take Nofa?

Because if Blore gets injured as some keep suggesting that he might, we then have Doueihi and Blore burning 2 top 30 spots for the year or at least possibly a good part of part of it and we haven't gained any depth in the centre position where we currently have no depth.

It can be argued that we do not currently have depth in the second row position which is where the opportunity comes in for the young up and comers and I believe Blore's best position was really going to be in the middle where it could be argued that it is a position that we have our greatest depth in already.

Yes you are quite right in questioning Olam's motivation, but if he came here on loan for a year with us having an option for the remaining 2 years of his contract then the majority of the risk would fall on the Storm rather than us and this would especially be the case if we were only paying Blore's contract value plus maybe a little sweetener thrown in.

With regards to Olam's motivation, and I could be wrong, but I see him as being an honest and honourable type of person and I don't see him tanking and not putting in a full effort in an attempt to redeem himself and if he performs poorly then it is because he is in fact past it.

Like I have already said the majority of the risk would be with the Storm and I don't really expect a deal like this to come off, but it is the kind of thing we should be looking at more often rather than coming off 2nd best as we often do.

Could that ‘Ayoub’ club be the Roosters as a potential suitor for Nofa?

Then you are effectively paying $650,000 for a player of the same age, in similar form and for an extra year, 3 years as opposed to 2 years.

Don't see any advantage in this scenario, better keeping Noffa and save $150,000 a year and have him off the books a year sooner than Olam would be.

Anyone in the team can get injured … Olam missed time last year as well I believe …

I don’t see the Storm agreeing to what you propose in any event .. they have everything to lose and nothing much to gain … if his form declines then he is right back there in 2025 with two years to go….at least if his form improves in 2024 then they will benefit from this instead of paying for him to play elsewhere … I see it very unlikely the Tigers keep him in 2025 anyway…

Am I the only one that thinks 600 k for Olam is overs .......can't believe the Storm are paying that much for him
100%

Then reflect that we apparently paid that sort of coin for people like Doueihi, Sullivan, BJ Leilua, the Fainu’s.

And more for guys like Luciano, Packer, Mbye, Joffa.

So 600K for us, that’s our type.
