Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Someone made a good point in the forum about Latu Fainu to lock as a Victor Radley type lock just minus the inflictor part. They are the same height and weight and Latu is quite strong defensively and would no doubt be a silky ball player in the middle. If that happens to be the case then that’s another young gun who slots into the side.
It’s possible that’s the plan with him, he did play some lock when he came of the bench.

I think he’s a better 6 though and I like what I’ve seen from Matamua and Sione playing the link role.

I believe @teddy23 was saying something about that a while ago.
Yes I have high hopes for Latu as a ball playing 13 at first receiver the space he’ll be able to create for Luai/Galvin on the edge would be phenomenal.

He’s also very capable of breaking the line if they don’t respect him with the ball and put all the pressure on the halves, both his inside and outside step is crazy good. Along with his short and long balls. On top of that his defence is definitively up to par, I have no doubts about him handling the physical toll in the middle.

I also think he’s more willing to transition into another position if he has his 2 brothers here if it contributes to winning, whilst it might be a more difficult convo to force Galvin to do so and remain at the club long term.

1. Bula
6. Galvin
7. Luai
9. Api/TDS
13. Latu

Take my money

I’ve posted this in the past but no one has ever taken any notice of a thing I’ve said before so not sure you mean me, but if you do it feels weird. Sort of weird like when I was super high on Galvin after preseason and Tucker was certain to tell me I was wrong… Tucker probably still thinks Lachy should be in reserves…

I suggested this after the Cronulla or Parra game when Galvin stamped himself a future NRL mainstay, some on here laughed at me

I’ve always considered Latu more a 13 when we signed Luai as I knew Galvin was better suited next to Jarome.

Karl Olaputo who the Dogs signed with serious promise from the Broncos was a 6 and before his neck injury Gus was in the works of transitioning him into a ball playing 13.

Funnily enough both Olaputo and Latu are very similar with their style of play.

In fairness to @Tucker - it’s hard to get carried away over a 18 year old having a solid trial game. I think everyone was certain there’s talent but the question was whether he’d be able to adapt to the physical/mental toll of playing first grade in pivotal position in a struggling club like ours on a weekly basis as early as he did. Especially when we had Latu who did his time and was ready to go.

Taking into account Galvin hadn’t even played a single NSW cup game and skipped that step. Even I had some doubts if I’m being completely honest. I think that’s why it looks as bad as it does when he requested that release where the perception was he should be grateful getting the opportunity to play NRL that quickly and have that level of belief put to him when a lot of people wouldn’t have. But also it showcases the level of quality Lachie has to be able to take that step and look like a 200 game player and excel.

Maybe Latu being suspended for round 1 was a blessing in disguise.

I’d just like to get a proper look at Latu in the top grade, he’s obviously going to keep growing if he’s anything like his other brothers. I never paid much attention to the one in jail but he was a hooker so obviously played through the middle. No doubt the kid has the genetics to handle it that’s for sure.

Me too - I’d like to see more than 10 min cameos but I’m assuming we have long term plans for Latu and don’t wanna put too much pressure or rush that hamstring.

I can't open the link paws but reading the headline sounds like positive vibes happening at the club

Retaining the Ute would be absolutely massive for the club and the young forwards coming through

Also shows Galvin is committed to commit beyond current contract

With Luai coming the future would be amazing if Ute committed as well
Sorry mate!

just realized Jarome is gonna be 28 when he plays for the tigers. Didn’t realise how old he is, feels like just yesterday he debuted. By the time his deal runs out he is gonna be 31, looks like we definitely are replacing experience with experience no doubt.
We signed him for 5 years so will be 33 when his contract is up.

This is just a clip off an article that i came across about him being contracted to the storm for the next 3 years. How our blokes think they can get him over the line to the wests tigers is beyond me , and why they would consider it , seeing that he is still contracted to storm.

"The 28-year old was dogged by rumours of a potential exit from the Storm amid a difficult pre-season which was marked by repeated injuries but Asofa-Solomona says he's keen to stay in Melbourne until the end of his current deal in 2027."
The Storm offered Sofa Solomon to us as a swap for Stef earlier this year.
So that's why it could be a goer.

I would take Horsburgh. I reckon he would be a good pickup.
Isn’t he injured I thought that’s why he isn’t playing….. if he just isn’t getting picked then Ricky might be losing his touch.

Horsbrough is a weapon and I would 10000% be all for us making an offer and getting him into the squad.

I don’t think there’s room for 2 big reds though so Seyfarth might have to go back to NSW cup.
