OFFICIAL Lachlan Galvin #277 *Released* Career Discussion.

Galvin knows he will end up in the lock or second row position in time maybe in 2 years time who knows. But for him to play in that position he needs to stack on at least 10kgs to his frame and currently that is not going to happen. Latu needs time in the half of 5/8 position leave him there in reserve grade where he can learn and develop his game.

Both Latu and Lachlan need more work on their individual games and this comes with experience.

Why do people keep bringing up moving Galvin from the halves to the backrow???

He's already a good player in the halves and halves are by far the most important players on the field. Why would we move one of the best young players in the game from one of the most important positions to one where we don't know if he'd be as successful and is also a less important position? That's not even taking into account that there's so few quality halves in the comp as is, and a bunch of them are already in their 30s and very close to retirement.

Anyway, re-signing Galvin is a must. His ceiling is sky high. He could realistically continue to improve each year for the next 5-10 years. Dylan Brown's played with a premier halfback on finals quality teams and has been in first grade for five years. He's pretty much who he is at this point and managed to get an offer of $1.3m a year. If we could lock Galvin up for a few years on anything less than a mil a year, that should be seen as a huge win because he'll likely outperform the contract over time even if he's overpaid initially.

Sure we've got Fainu, but it's total nonsense to suggest that we should be ok with losing a 19 year old future star because we've got another one who's not proven as much waiting in the wings. I'd much rather lose Luai than Galvin given their respective ages and ceilings.
Because there’s a potentially better one plying his trade in reserve grade . And by better , I mean silkier , more conventional , but can go missing , and hasn’t really worked out how to put his stamp on a game . But Latu was the “prodigy” coming through the grades . Galvin had a bumper year 12 year , which coincided with growth spurt , and hasn’t really turned back .
It’s more of a question of how do you fit all these guys in , and do you hand the keys to the castle to a guy, who is always looking over the fence and wondering about how their grass is greener . I’m not saying he is or isn’t that way , but these are all variables . And the big elephant in the room , like the Sironen brothers , Scott hill (who stayed at 6 far longer than people thought), Jason smith , eventually will he just be too big an cumbersome to play at 6 . Even Terry Campese suffered this , but couldn’t move into the middle , so his injuries shortened his career . He might not be . Scott hill never did , not really,so yea . But then there’s another question . If he doesn’t bulk up , can his body endure the demands of 1st grade footy over 7-10 years , or even 3-5. These are all questions that clubs , not just ours , will need to answer before evaluating what his price tag is .
Because you’re right . 2025 Galvin is a 6 through and through . There’s just going to be some desperate clubs throwing reckless money at players . Like the knights have just kicked that off . I think the eels will get desperate if they win the spoon . A notoriously fickle club , that turns in itself really quickly when things aren’t going right . That’s their culture .
Plus if the 2 new clubs struggle to find quality talent they will just go balls to the wall and offer elite talent 2 mil to play there. Especially PNG I would think . Because theyres wrecking balls everywhere in that country, they just lack the polish an elite talent will provide .
On a side note , I think the elite talent that will go to PNG will all be players who grew up in north qld , and are used to the weather , almost love it . If I was PNG I’d be targeting guys who love that tropical lifestyle . So it’s not huge punch in the face when you get there . Because a lot of people never get used to the heat and humidity, and will want out real quick no matter how much they’re paid .

The ideal for a player manager would be for clubs to get into bidding. Richardson is far too savvy for that and you would think he has a figure the club is prepared to pay (and afford) noting Luai is the marquee signing. Bula also is right up there now as one of our best.

yes ,,all true…

Richo will have a figure for Galvin he won’t go over …if he loses him though …probably gives JL more leverage …. That get out clause he has is going to suck

You don’t know that man . It could just get reconciled on a random Tuesday night in the offseason , with the media trying to make nothing stories for a couple of days out of it . In fact most players , that’s exactly how it goes .
Percentage wise , most players don’t really change clubs . And elite talent ? It’s hardly ever . Maybe twice a year . And we’ve had Robson and brown , who I would class a tier down from elite .
If the place is winning and the vibes are good , I can’t see Luai going anywhere . Especially if there’s a lot of unfinished business on the table .

Correct …Im not saying it is certain to happen …

But he and his manager put those get out clauses in his contract for a reason ..

Tigers are reportedly preparing to table a “significant offer” to five-eighth Lachlan Galvin to keep him at Concord long-term.

Following the 32-6 thrashing of the Eels, Tigers are understandably keen to hold onto the young playmaker, who has already formed a strong combination with new recruit Jarome Luai and exciting fullback Jahream Bula.

The Tigers hope to sort out an extension for Galvin sooner rather than later given he is able to negotiate with rival clubs on November 1, with his current deal ending at the conclusion of the 2026 season.

Veteran journalist Brent Read says the Tigers don’t want Galvin to get a sniff of free agency, with club powerbrokers prepared to make an offer the 19-year-old can’t refuse.

“I think it’s imminent. I think it’ll come in the next month or two they’ll make a move on Lachlan Galvin,” Read said on NRL360.

“They have to make a move on him because he’s one of those guys who can talk with rival clubs on November 1 and there are a stack of clubs that are lining him up.

“I think he’ll be a million dollar player at some point in that contract offer. I think it’ll be a significant offer over a long period of time.”

Read continued that for whatever reason Galvin turns down the offer, he’ll likely test his value on the open market at the end of the year.

“If he turns the offer down you know he’s going to market because it’s going to be a big offer (from the Tigers),” he said.

Despite coming off three straight wooden spoons, it’s a very exciting time for the Tigers.

Sunday’s win over the Eels was the first time ever the spine of Galvin, Bula, Luai and skipper Api Koroisau had played together.

“It’s a great mix because they have the inexperience but x-factor of Galvin and Jahream Bula coming through and then you have premiership winners Api Koroisau and Jarome Luai,” NRL360 host Braith Anasta said.

I still haven't seen any stand out performances for Latu. I know, short on field times, injuries etc.
But I have seen Sharpe, young and fast, still learning at 5/8; And Newcastle buy Brown for overs?
Great pick-up if Galvin leaves.

Yeah the media made out like he has a lot of them, but I'm sure someone here said it was only 1. The thing is, obviously I'm speculating, but I feel like that has been put in more for the purpose of if there is no improvement of the club (bickering etc) and results he could get out, as opposed to wanting more money.

'Reportedly' followed by a lot of 'I thinks'

Ready must be bored.

I was under the impression he had multiple? So that would be good if it’s only 1…

How much of a lift would it be if say he has more than 1 …JL just comes out and says - “I’m relinquishing the first get out clause at end of ‘26 and will commit to WT three years minimum” …I mean it would be a massive lift to the club, and prevent the dickhead media linking him with any club in the meantime …it’s going to be a major pain otherwise with both him and Galvin on the market potentially…

I didn't see it either, it isn't necessary in the next year or two but long term.

are you happy to pay Galvin $1mil plus a year to play second row ? I don’t see that happening … no way his agent , him or his family are copping a move to the forwards and the subsequent reduction in salary … I’m sure another club will happily pay him to play at 6 after seeing what just happened with Brown…

They are going to have to make Latu work somewhere else if Galvin stays …maybe we only end up having JL two years … Im sure the new Perth team would love to have him as a marquee player when they come in 2027!
Look if Luai does what he needs to do in 2-4 years and Latu is ready, it could potentially be the best for everyone and Luai to make even bigger dollars. But he has said he would like to play in the UK before he retires so that will be the most likely move.

In saying that I am loving what Luai has brought to the club and I wouldn't be open to this unless it was 💯 best for all...

Really depends on Latus development and what Galvin does

Question. What we do know is, if Galvin signs with say Bulldogs there’s a decent commission for his agent.
However, if Tigers extend Galvin’s contract, does his agent get paid?
Pretty sure it's a percentage of the contract value over the entire length of the contract, doesn't matter if he stays or goes, the manager negotiates the contract so is entitled to their percentage.

Galvins a 6 for the next 5+ years IMO. After that who knows. If he stays we lose Latu, such is life. If he goes we keep Latu. Good situation to be in for a change.
Yeah, we need Galvin to work out what he's doing asap, if we don't start getting Latu game time he's going to go he's not going to linger in reserve grade, even though he wanted to play with his brothers he can't do that in reserves. I'm hoping we can start getting Da silva on the pitch to start taking over from Api, then move Latu to the 14, if Galvin stays. I'm hoping we keep them all.

Jolls if Galvan and Sharpe from what we have seen at present were off contract at the same time and their managers were wanting 1mill who would you pick.
Wouldn’t pay either $ 1mill
But would love to have both in the squad
Remembering
Sharpe would be playing fullback if not for K.Ponga who is an absolute superstar.
He could play any position from fullback to 5/8 if Newcastle loose him because they spent so much on Brown there management should be shot.

It was a hypothetical O, think Richo's prep extension for Galvan would be something like this, 25 600k, 26 800k and 1mil for the duration of the contract or possibly a ratcheting element.
Agree they could get into trouble now I suppose the saving grace is if Ponga gets raided by the Roosters or union they have Sharpe to fill his spot and will be in a position to upgrade him substantially.
I'm hoping they all want to stay and they have to shed quality to keep them all Richo will be watching lol.

If Galvin is learning, developing etc and the team is winning he will stay. The club will give him a good offer.
People generally leave a job when they’re unhappy, unless they’ve been there a long time and need a change (which isn’t the case here), of they get offered an offer they can’t refuse. I can’t see any club coming in with an offer that the tigers won’t be able to get near, so take that out as a factor. If he’s happy and winning, he’ll stay.
We have something that other clubs can’t offer too - it’s representing the area he grew up in up in, he’d be taking that area out of the bottom of the ladder, and he’d be doing it with his friends he grew up with.

It’s also funny how these stories I.e get out your cheque book come out after a loss. If we keep winning the journos and agents don’t have much leverage.

These ongoing forwards suggestions are pretty outlandish. He’s the most natural young five eighth in the comp.
