Benji 2025 and Beyond

I think Benji has something to offer and he genuinely cares.

I know he's got his friends beside him - Morris, Hodgo & Heinington, who I all like to an extent.

2025 we will remember;
- Galvin season derailing campaign
- TDS, "I'm so good, I should start.. oh no, I'm actually not."
- Losing games we could've won and continuing to fail.

I cannot narrow it down to why we're so bad.
Is it a personnel issue? Within the coaching staff or the squad? Every year, i think we're not far off and when it clicks, we'll be great. Yet here I am again this year saying the same thing. This team is just so incomplete and missing something that is clearly important because we cannot get the wins.
We've got no forwards. Never really have had a pack that can dominate. Maybe briefly with Tapau, Gavet, etc. People can say what they like, but League is still about physical domination of your opponent. If you are also smarter, that's a bonus.

Starts at the top. It's a club structure issue. I've written in the Richo thread, he needs to go the board Monday and asks for two roles:
GM Football
Director of Coaching/Pathways.

The club is travelling blind. No strategy to its roster management, coaching, and development.

You bring in another coach, and without the checks and balances, they run the show the same way Benji does.

My rule of thumb for the start of this season, was that we should have no big losing streaks with something close to our starting side. It was an injury hit team today, but we were still really poor. We shouldn't have lost so many games these last couple months.

Benji is struggling. It's becoming really unsatisfactory.

We can’t go with someone who’s never been a head coach before. If the club is gonna move on from Benji it has to be someone who is experienced. Would have been fine with Gardiner but I doubt he would’ve come back after getting fired. Webster same thing.

I get what your saying, but I'm not convinced the best option isnt one of those guys i mentioned. Ideally we would have someone who has the experience and commands instant respect, but there is no one like that available. So best just to get who we believe is the best coach

Best coach that’s available IMO is Brad Arthur, can’t think of anyone else who is better then him that’s available.

Its hard for us plebs to know who the best is. Josh Hannay has enormous wraps. That being said, I agree Arthur is the best available that has been a head coach. He was well liked by Parra players, improved Moses as a 7 and got his team playing physical with good line speed. I'd take all that in a heartbeat.

I love Benji as a player , but as a a coach he should have earned his stripes. This is not on him but the club that decided a rookie coach with no coaching history was the answer. I would have even given Morris a shot based on his short history at the Sharks . I hope he doesn’t add another spoon to his coaching resume

The club is in a difficult position, but the media will crucify us for sacking another coach. Especially given that the club has lost Galvin and now possibly TDS within a short period. We are defiantly gonna get called a basket case (which will have some merit to be fair), given as well that this’ll be the 10th person since 2013 to be a head coach whoever takes the job after Benji, as well as again for sacking another coach like I said earlier. Whatever the club decides it could very well be the last time as fans will eventually be close to walking away if they haven’t already.

We need someone who has or will have lots of respect as a coach. Someone who has earnt it.

Josh Hannay?

In the mould of Ciraldo, Riles, Cronulla guy, etc

If not at least give Benji some real support with good assistant coaches

Thing is, the WT have become a feeder club. Other clubs can keep promising youngsters as reserves and in lower grades but young players won't wait their turn behind at the Tigers. The club can never build depth. It started with losing Teddy, Paps and Moses. Ever since then, it's been a trend. No one was calling for Fa'alongo to leave Storm while waiting behind Paps.

Respectfully, we can’t give the head coach job to another rookie. Hannay might have been a good assistant coach for years, but this club is not the one for him to start his head coach career. If we’re moving on from Benji we need an experienced head at the role, or as you said give Benji better assistants.

It doesn’t matter what the media say. We should be making decisions to help us win games not please the media.
