Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Transition years are for teams who have a lot of success. Like Penrith, if they ever had a season where they weren’t contenders, then they would be the perfect example. Before their recent resurgence, when they were floundering, you could have made the case they were having a transition year before new stars emerge and they make another run. Clubs who don’t make the finals for 15 years aren’t having transition years. They are just being inept.
There are however levels of ineptitude.
We may avoid the spoon this year,
which in itself,
would be a transition 🤔

if everything happened to plan our roster would be :
Klemmer pap Bateman Stef on $950k a year
LG on $1 million
TDS of $500k
That’s horrific
🤮
Maybe so. But to let them all go without a player in return just looks like a sh!t show.
Particularly local juniors who we have put a lot of development into. Perhaps we were boxed in by the whole Galvin legal stuff and didn’t have a strong leverage position, but I can’t see from any angle how we benefit from letting TDS go this year without something come back the other way. And if anyone says transfer fees, I, and pretty much every supporter says, who cares. Transfer fees are inconsequential to everyone but the bean counters.

Well, that's not quite true, is it?

Loaned Sullivan, released Galvin, Klemmer, Bateman, Papali'i & potentially Da Silva

Didn't re-sign Utoikamanu

Signed Hunt, Terrell May, Taylan May, Bird, Luai, Turuva, Skelton...

Not exactly as bad as is being pictured..
I think Bird and Hunt will find it difficult making the top 17 next year. Hopefully Bird picks up a gig in SL. Hunt on a retirement package. Have big hopes for Taylan and the development of Makasini. Need a decent backup for Bula and Api - we will struggle if Mason and Hope are in the spine for long periods.

Bellamy making sure his player gets an extra $30,000 match payment , nothing to see here lol
Which is why current club coaches shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near SOO coaching gigs, even as assistants. Stef can make up to $90k in extra match payments by being picked, with no freight on the Storm salary cap. Has a bit of a stench about it. Particularly given there seems to be only two people in NSW that believe he has earned his spot, Daley and Bellamy.

How many signings do we need by close of business today to be roster compliant ? Or have we enough now ? I thought we were short a few ?
With TDS gone we are back to 27, the forum think tank is of the belief that all that left from Nov being the start of the NRL season don't have to be replaced.

Part of it is down to the players we have.

However, we don't play to the same structures as the rest of the NRL. It's mostly eyes up footy, which works horribly when the key spine players are missing. Watch how the top teams ie Melbourne, Penrith play without their key players. The structure remains the same. We don't play with a 13 and often it's some random prop playing first receiver playing it out the back.

Since Sheens took over our attack has been this slow passing from side to side thing that doesn't challenge good NRL sides and it's why we rarely get the ball to our wingers in space. This is less to do with our roster and more to do with our game plans.

This is coaching.
When the top teams are missing 3/4 of their starting spine they lose too. Look at Penrith this year when they had players out
