Man Walks on the Moon – 20 July 1969

Sydney turned out in force to welcome The Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins.

The men were in Sydney on 1 November 1969.

The parade travelled down King Street, turned into Elizabeth Street, and entered Hyde Park via St James Road, where a civic reception was held near the Archibald Fountain.

Now of course the big question is, did they walk on the moon or was it staged in the USA ?
I remember clearly when it happened and of course it was never questioned, it was amazing and we watched it !!!
But the thing that keeps gnawing at me was a conspiracy advocate who kept fronting Armstrong, and producing a Bible on which he asked Armstrong to swear that he had walked on the Moon.
Armstrong refused several times and thus introduced some doubt into the whole mission, for me anyway !

Harry Forster Chapin (December 7, 1942 – July 16, 1981) died 45 years ago today at the age of 38.
Best known for his folk rock songs including "Taxi," "W*O*L*D," and the No. 1 hit "Cat's in the Cradle,"

Chapin was also a dedicated humanitarian who fought to end world hunger, helping create the Presidential Commission on World Hunger in 1977. In 1987, he was posthumously awarded the Congressional Gold Medal for his humanitarian work.

Legendary Aussie fast bowler, born 18 July 1949.

Dennis Keith Lillee, AM, MBE former Australian cricketer rated as the "outstanding fast bowler of his generation".
Lillee was known for his fiery temperament, 'never-say-die' attitude and popularity with the fans.
Lillee formed a new ball partnership with Jeff Thomson which is recognised as one of the greatest bowling pairs of all time.

I attended my old cricket clubs ( Auburn Shires) 75th Anniversary a couple of months ago and Dennis Lillee was the guest speaker. He no longer does speaking engagements was persuaded to come out of retirement and came all the way from WA for the evening hosted by Shane Lee. A great night and some really fond memories of cricket in the 70's.
