LIVE GAME Round 25 vs Roosters

Live Game Discussion
I actually thought Klein had one of his better games yesterday. Some mistakes as usual, but generally fair to both sides. Heck he even ended the game 7 seconds before it should’ve been. Clock should’ve been stopped to set a scrum after Api kicked it out with 7 secs left, but he blew the whistle for full time. Put the Roosters in a spin lol hence their silly challenge, but the bunker shut it down.

Even the bunker favoured us! That no try ruling of Marky Mark’s lost ball was ruled a try in another game over the weekend. Maybe they all had bets on us, there were some juicy odds for us to win that one.
The marky mark no try should never be a try. Goes to show how horrible the refereeing has become that there was even potential of it being given a try.

CHARGED: Siua Wong, Victor Radley and Jock Madden all CHARGED from yesterday’s thriller — but all can escape with a fine

Samuela Fainu NOT cited for hip-drop on Mark Nawaqanitawase
Klein should have been charged for giving rooster penalties that were simply not penalties , the drop ball in play the ball was ridiculous, the time off at the end was again ridiculous, he done his best to bring the roosters into the game but it didn’t come off , he is a disgrace

Marky Mark definitely lost the ball but I could see it being ruled a try on the odd day.

For the scrum, I'd have to re-check, but I don't think the Roosters packed in time to force a stopped clock? The onus is on the opponent to pack the scrum, forcing the ref to call time off. Roosters instead challenged the touch finder in desperation, and in doing so wound the clock down.

I agree I think the reffing yesterday was fairly even. Roosters got back into the match through desperate play and some luck, not the ref. E.g. Cody Ramsey took a terrific low grubber when we were on the attack, Sam Walker put a rubbish chip in but it bounced awkwardly for Solomone who could not clean up, which gave Roosters 6-again and they scored.

Api kicking it out was reflected in post #502 at the time. Braindead and a classic reaction to not knowing how to secure a win after being losers for so long. Hold the ball, take the tackle, game over. Brain fart panic.

Klein blew a try for Markie not even being able to see it, if done correctly, it should have been a no try and go to the video ref to check, nope called it a try on the field swapping the burden to favour the cocks, he blew a penalty for the dropped play the ball in our half to the cocks, then let them quick tap to score under the posts but Robson dropped it cold, Gus in the comm box almost blew a valve it was that bad of a call, he blew multiple 6 agains on their 4th tackle while squaring the figures up by giving 6 agains on our 1st or 2nd tackle. It wasnt even close to 'generally fair to both sides'.

I do however entertain the thought the odds were huge for a Tigers win, so maybe Klein$$ was thinking about other things and not the more usual over the top bias way he refs us.

Hoping for a bobble in the play the ball, or incorrect PTB is my best guess
Worth a shot.

Same if we'd missed that Field Goal - I wonder if we could challenge?
They were MILES offside.
It's an interesting one. I believe the official rule is you can challenge any decision where there is a stop in play, however NRL is specific about certain issues that cannot be challenged - including forward passes, offsides, marker being square. So you would not be able to challenge the offside from a FG attempt.

What the NRL did approx 2023 was to compel the captain to name what they are challenging. So you can't challenge, for example, a high shot and then expect the Bunker to identify a knock on during the play.

The whole issue with THAT Cowboys match is that Tigers took clean possession from the kick and there was no stop in play. The referee did not make an active decision that could be challenged (you can't challenge "play on"). Cowboys should not have been allowed to make a challenge, though I am not clear if it was a clarification that was brought in later on.

But at the time, I did predict that teams would/should be challenging the final play of every match, if they have a spare call, in hopes of a Hail Mary result of guessing an infringement correctly.

Personally I think captain's challenge should be outlawed the final 5 mins, I don't like the idea of speculative challenges changing a game, e.g. a lazy head-high missed by the ref but picked up on review. I think it should be left entirely up to the ref or a bunker referral at this late stage.

• we complain about Jocks goal kicking tonight but it worked in our favour in the end. If Jock had of kicked one more conversion the roosters would not have taken the penalty goal to go to 24 all. They would have been forced to go for the try and I’m not sure we could have held them out. We were giving up 60-70m per set at the end.
I appreciate your overall comments but I'm never in favour of missed conversions.

If he had sunk the first 3 we would not have had the late drama that we did.

Yeah about 3 kicks our 1.2million man , with his standard missed tackle that leads to a try,,changed momentum with that horrendous forward pass
i would say that pass was marginal and not forward, however there were 2 passes that led to that try at halftime right after Luais pass, especially that one from Robson to Walker that was close to a meter forward, he passed before the 10m line and Walker caught it about 1/2m over the line. even the commentators mentioned it a few times.

When he and Skelton are on they are really good together on that edge. Both big and strong and Herbert has some flair in his game. Unfortunately, we just don’t see it enough and their bad games have outweighed their good games this season. If they can learn and just get some consistency into their play over the off season, they could be a real threat for us next year.
I'm a believer in the need to feed these guys opportunities in attack in order to keep them more focused and hungry in defense. Our outside backs have been starved of quality/early ball for weeks now so it will get frustrating and difficult to stay focused. Its like only eating the mash and never getting the steak.

Solo is 3 years older , and literally kisses as many tackles as he makes . And that efficiency stat doesn’t take into account being caught in no mans land .
I’ve said this before but I’m almost certain at least 70% of our fanbase only ever watch when we have the ball . The only things they notice in defence is the absolute howler , or often the guy at the end of a backline that’s had 3 people stuff up inside him to be caught in a 3 on 1 .
Spot on, dragging some of our young wingers/centres over the coals when the numbers were stripped way before play gets to them....i see it all too often. Yes, perhaps more experienced centres and wingers can shut it down, however we are playing inexperienced kids out there, they will need time to learn and unfortunately its not always in KOE, there are lessons they can only learn in first grade.

Same with Luai on that play. Did you see he tackled Marky Mark kinda a bit late but then they both got up Mark was straight up and into the play while Luai just walked. Effort there would have stopped the try
Luai was back there trying to affect the tackle as he scored

Thats why you now have players come to the ref when hes talking to.the VR, flapping their gums mentioning other incidents possible or not loudly enough for the bunker to hear and to get them to look for them too even if the initial challenge was something else

One day in the distant future drones and robotics will fix all of our problems. We could pick up a couple of cheap referees from China right now but occasionally they lose the plot and run into walls. Of course no-one would want to see Klein do that, just saying.

Surely people are starting to see the value in Seyfarth. Pure commitment - every club has to have effort players he is ours. No world beater but gives it everything.
He has been massive for us this year. Best year in his career so far. Him and Twal have gone up a level. Sayfarth has been thrown everywhere from prop rotatiin to 2nd row and lock and yesterday covering for Twal looked great. Even his ball distribution was spot on.
