Souths had no other option ... and there was no guarantee they would get reinstated. Balmain didn't have to merge with anyone as they made the criteria, and on reflection, should have toughed it out. Wests were in the same boat as Souths... but without the fan base. Zero chance of reinstatement...

He offered to buy the club previously but wanted control.. they knocked him back.

If your source is on the board and he’s told you what happened in a board meeting then he should get the boot immediately. You are not allowed to do that if you are a director and I’ve seen board presidents booted for having loose lips.
