    Rugby World Cup Thread

What did you think of the Final? I thought that the French played much better football, although they lost. However, they frightened the tripe out of the Kiwis and made all of the Union scribes look idiotic, and that's a good thing. How would anyone like any of those 3 French backrowers running...

Phil Gould's Comments re Poker Machines

Does anyone else remember an article a couple of years ago in a Sunday paper about (and by) Ray Warren confessing that Gambling had almost ruined his life? According to the article he had lost thousands and was attempting to give it up. Sounds as if he was giving in to pressure from above. Don't...

    Hopoate signing with Eels

Perhaps Dad will be the Proctology advisor? I'm sure that he'd love to keep his hand in in some capacity. I'd hate to be the Parramatta lock forward if John's coaching anywhere near the scrum. Apart from those terible puns I thought that the boy was overawed by the occasion and that the...

    'De Goyce' and 'Cost-Jason'

I'm lucky enough to have a beautiful Portuguese daughter-in-law and she tells me that "De Gois" is pronounced 'D'Goysh'. In Portuguese it seems that the final 'S' becomes a 'SHH'. You ought to hear her say "Moises Henriques" - pure poetry!

    Matai

Re my reference yesterday to "Stooge Media Commentators". I'm glad to say that Roy Masters in this morning's SMH kept the faith with some not -so -veiled criticism of MacCallum and the judiciary. He referred to the Manly/Melbourne brawl and the inequality of the punishment handed out. Well done...

    Matai

I've just read Greg McCallum's reasons for not suspending Matai and I must say that I've never read a greater load of Bollocks in my life. He more or less says that it was OK because Matai didn't make contact with his foot, and that it wasn't a real knee-drop, just a glancing blow! All I can say...

Wests Tigers sign Rugby winger John Grant

Whatever…. I don't want to Jonah him but we can all see how he goes in the Rugby Grand Final tomorrow at 3:00 on Channel 2\. I've been very impressed so far and think that he has a big future as he's big, really quick, and just seems to bust tackles at will. Fingers crossed.

Politics Super Thread - keep it all in here

Well said, Flippedy. I fully agree so count me as a friend. Hopefully Murdoch will get his comeuppance in the UK at least, and that weird crew on 2GB - Jones, Hadley (who makes me doubly ashamed because he's a Rugby League man), Smith et al are so far over the top that they're beneath contempt.

    Greatest Tackle Ever?

What a great Topic! I'm glad to see that I'm not the only old bugger on this Forum. Well done Spearby to bring up Les Johns. Now there was a fullback, I really think that he's the best I've seen - including Langlands and Eadie. I believe that he's Joey's and Matty's uncle. As for huge tackles, I...

Politics Super Thread - keep it all in here

Just idle curiosity. I reckon that the posters on this forum represent a good cross section of the population; mostly NSW, but you seem to be from all walks of life. My question is this: with so much being made of Newspapers' Opinion Poll results have ANY of you ever been polled? I'm in my...

    A GOOD READ

I've just finished reading John Elias' book - SIN BIN -. Most enjoyable with lots of stuff about various clubs and coaches. How much of it is gospel truth, I don't know, but it's quite engrossing. As they said in The Life of Brian "he's been a very naughty boy" and probably his own worst enemy...

    Blair for 5

I'm with Tiger Watto - I love a good conspiracy theory. I quote from this morning's SMH (Page 30): "Critically, judiciary chairman Paul Conlon accepted the submission of Stewart's counsel…....." and then at the end of the article: "After the verdict was read, Conlon said to Stewart: "I just hope...

    HHHEEEYYYY AHHHHH - SPOILERS

Unfortunately I only saw the first 30 minutes so I missed the fight, but the ABC commentators brought up an interesting point: when the Stewart/Blair fracas started and the Manly reserves ran on to the field to join in, Manly technically had more than 13 men on the field and could lose their...

    Utai At Centre

I think that I remember a couple of years ago he played centre for the Bulldogs' State Cup team(?) in a Grand Final against one of our teams and cut us to pieces. We couldn't handle him at all. I realize that !st Grade is a different standard, but he can do it. Good luck to him

    Adam Blair

I only saw a very short clip of the Storm's game at the weekend, but was that Adam Blair who made a great run down the sideline which led to a try? # 11? I hope it was! He seemed unstoppable and got away a very nice pass in traffic.
