LIVE GAME *SPOILERS* Round 2 vs Raiders

Live Game Discussion
Whatever happened to the Captain /Coach, it could still work.
Why don't we try it.
Simply sign up Benji and give him a go in short periods during the game, I am sure he would really enjoy it, and most importantly would lift the team.
John and Robbie could also help up in the box.
Watch to see what will happen.
I can still see Benj on the field with the Rabbits, it wasn't long ago. give him a go with our Wests Tigers, he won't let us down.
No.
Whilst I know your heart is in the right place , if you think bringing back a 39yo veteran is the answer to our problems then you are mistaken.
We have a myriad of issues but that is not the solution, under any circumstances.

I have been saying it for a year, Bateman will be one of the worst signings we have ever made, does anybody think he is worth the 650k plus a year, plus the transfer fee they payed ? His type of back rower is gone, and has been for a while, they are all big mobile units now or at least one of them. Also have been saying this for a while, who is the attack coach or coaches ? Watching other side over the weekend, they play completely different and make the defence think, ours was one out nearly all game, they really need to look at the coaching structure, you have 3 assistants that have just come out of the game, and have no experience as assistants. On a positive note, young Galvin will only get better, he tried so hard, well done.

Young Galvin will be 'outta here before too long if we keep losing...not a good start to our season, we should expect better. and we do !!

Went well in the rep games he's played since he signed here....
I think he's dropped off, Because he's in a team with a much lower IQ.
We just don't have any footy in us, We don't....

Staines almost had to run back to cambo to find someone to run a line or hit on the weekend,
If he did that in any other team, He'd have had 2-3 options minimum..

We're a team of ball watchers....
And I'm sorry to say, It's coached into us.

We have not had a decent S&C coach since Steve Flokes (one of the best there was). How did we do in those 2 years he was with us. we made the semi's and we had a harden shell within the squad. Everyone worked their socks off, we were fitter and stronger than ever before.
We have never been like that since.
Patience mate, we're not done yet, we still haven't hit the sand hills. :ROFLMAO:

mixed bag on Saturday.

- we have not started well consistently since early 2020. it has seriously been that long. Marshall needs to remedy that quickly or otherwise we're in for another long year.

- RHS defensively was even worse than we thought they would be. To'a is persisting with legs tackles which allow quick PTBs and offloads, Sullivan was barely there and Staines is too small. there will be personnel changes there next week which should hopefully result in an improved performance, but there is a reason why Richo's already said we need to recruit in the outside backs.

- it was always going to be won and lost in the middle third in the first 20, and it was there for all to see. kick chase was pathetic. Seyfarth isn't cut out for first grade, let alone the start of games. it's no coincidence that when Pole came on and bent the line that we were able to play decent football. Klemmer wasn't at the races. Twal and Pole have to start next week. it's the only way things improve thru the corridor.

- Bud Sullivan was shocking. circa 2021 Brooks with his kicking game, didn't take the line on and played early to his backrower as opposed to swinging the ball wide. Sezer has to start next week. we played deeper and with purpose when he got on. Marshall spoke about going away from the gameplan, that happened because of his selections.

- Samuela Fainu and Fonua Pole are elite forwards in the making. Faataape was solid but starved of quality ball. Tupou and Staines likely get a repreive due to our diabolical depth but I don't think they're playing first grade next week if they're at a better club.

- Lachlan Galvin. wow. a composed performance in a struggling side. there were some moments I'm sure he'd love to have back, but this is what you expect from a kid who's last game was a Schoolboys outing.

I do think we'll see a much improved performance next week based on the reviews this week and some changes to the side, but if we don't fix our right hand side, kick chase and first 20 minutes then we can expect a similar 80 minutes. there are some green shoots and some players to build around, but there's a lot of work to be done.

Exactly, Ball watchers is the perfect term for about 10 of them.. they fall for every dummy; made Hosking look like Cliffy Lyons the way they just took off after his dummies .. they let the kicker kick the ball and never ever put pressure on the kick.. they gently tackle them and wait till they safely catch the ball before they commit to a tackle … no agression or urgency at all.. it is so frustrating that they all never support the ball carrier or push up in anticipation of an offload .. It’s like they are always preparing for the next play but when the ball comes they have not prepared for anything.. it looks like under 11s , and sadly they never improve , they make the same errors week in week out … Twal always overruns the dummy half , surely one of the coaches has noticed this and can practice it with him so he will time his run and hit the ball at speed … and do not get me started on the holding the tackles player up instead of throwing them to the ground .. they are just so gentle and considerate.. Bateman at least drove some players into the ground on Saturday and made them have a think about maybe being hurt in a tackle.. Cmon Tigers ,, use your shoulders and start jamming them FFS !

It was really noticeable.

You can't coach or train someone to be 6ft+. You can't coach or train someone to have a big frame. You can't coach or train someone to have breakout speed.

Canberra's players in ressies and firsts clearly had the advantage in physical attributes over Wests Tigers.

They've lost James, Ofahengaue, Reilly, etc, and haven't replaced this mix of size and speed at all. It isn't there at first grade and from what I saw on the weekend, there is even less of it in lower grades for depth and potential to come on in a couple of years. Canberra have it!
H. Matthews have a couple of front rowers [Christian Taupau-Moors and Maddax Fui] that are tall and lean paving the way for that team].
The other front rowers that are selected [including Miller] look like they have swallowed a sheep and haven't been to the toilet.
Our recruitment, identification needs a big overhaul.
I only hope they are looking at what other clubs are doing with their selections and successes. Change the overweight nuggets and try to catch up with the other clubs like Panthers, Canberra, Manly, Dolphins?

I just tried to look also but no luck. To be honest I would go into hiding also if I was that person and his staff.
Peter Moussa is the Head of Performance which I assume S&C comes under his remit.
Yeah I recall Peter Moussa as an answer previously. I know he had a long history with us. But for a decade we’ve probably been the most under done team in the comp.
Shouldn’t we be looking to change that?

Rabbitohs not afraid to make the hard calls

Lachlan Ilias reportably axed with Dean Hawkins to be named in the next round

Positive was Benji hooking Seyfarth & Sullivan &
not just sitting on his hands. 3rd/4th quarter of that
game wasn't good enough though. We'll be better
off 4 that run last week after 3 weeks off. Back at it

I was at the game and just put myself through the pain of rewatching it on Kayo. I won't rehash what has already been outlined here as most of the issues have already been covered. I will simply add what I took away from being at the game that you probably wouldn't pick up on watching the idiot box.

My concerns at the game started pre kickoff - even in the warm up Canberra were focussed and phycical. On the other hand we were kicking the ball about as if it was ten minutes before the start of a training run and then executed a pretty light warm up. I said at the time that we didn't look focussed even though it was our first game of the season. It only took a few minutes to realise we simply weren't at the same level of commitment or intesity as the Raiders.

Our lack of possiession in the first quarter of the game really hurt us. What didn't really show on the replay was how out on their feet our guys were from the amount of defence we had to do. There was a reason we lacked energy in attack - there wasn't much left in the tank. A fair shair of possession and I think we may have been in the game. We only have ourselves to blame though - silly errors and penalties - it is fixable.

The Fianu try was scored right in front of me and you could see the gap open up when Hoskins decided not to chase. Galvin read it well, but it was definitely a rehearsed move and I expect you will see more of as the season progresses. From front on you could see the play unfolding - it was great to see.

The negatives: Staines was ineffective; Tupou looked like he was at half pace for the duration of the game; Sullivan's ball playing and kicking game were bog average and Seyfath was simply well below standard in all aspects of forward play. You could see that he had effort, but skill wise he simply isn't up to FG.

Positives: Galvin was good, although made a few errors and cost a few penalties late in the game with reckless tackle attemps; Faataape showed some energy. As an ex hooker watching Api around the ruck when we had a bit of possession was a pleasure. From front on and from behind you could see how he would commit players and create space. Sezer controlled the game much better than Sullivan and definitley should start next week and finally, Bula does a lot of waving his arms about at the back - so for those of you concerned about how quiet he is, you can rest assured that he is making an effort. How effective it is - potentially another story.

Isn’t lack of intensity one of our recurring issues. I don’t get why the players can’t pump themselves up for the game.
I don’t like to use the word soft but that’s how we play. At present.

We don’t have any independent recruitment officer or regime.

Richo has just said “ We will try to get the players Benji wants”

And with the number of legacy players, unless we can wheel and deal etc, this will take time.

At least 2 seasons realistically.

My concern is that he was too close to Tim and he will carry those priorities over.

All Benji can do now is to improve the existing cattle. He will have success and he will have failures.

Funny how we went into raptures about Stef, Klem , Pap and John the Pom being in the team.
We need more meat on the bone and a lot more mongrel in the play.
Lack of intensity very evident ( repeatedly)

I don't know that's a fair indication....

Our first grade squad is full of kids, Some still eligible for 20's - Some even Ball...
Everyone at our club is playing up...
20's should be playing Ball or Lower,
Ressies should be playing 20's
Lot's of the NRL guys should be playing Ressies....
- A bloke like Tupou was eligible for U20's last year...

It's the chasm at the top that is the problem....

The push up from from the lower grades to fill the void with the best kids is a disadvantage to the development and skill level of the kids....
My guess Richo is sorting the Cream from the Cheese with the Kids while he continues to get rid of some deadwood and have key signings at NRL....
And hopefully those paths cross in a couple years with the quality signings and our best kids finding their feet....

Hopefully, We have a coach that knows what he's doing about then.

As Benji threw the players under the bus in his first official press conference, Im interested to see how they respond.

I appreciated his honesty, but it’s a risky play with some of the egos out there.

He might shock us all and give everyone another go.

Api seems to be settling into these losing press conferences like a veteran.
No criticism too harsh.
Nice Av Kaz. 👍🏻
