Adam Doueihi #227

He returned to us as a young gun FB, off the back of his rabbits debut filling in very well at FB and into their finals run. (From memory).
He obviously hated those few extra weeks and decided to come here. 😜
He played us and Fruit Pascals against ckickens or dogs and yeah I think we paid 650ish for 3, and we were all aboard the Doobie Express.
A hundred faked injuries, a few real ones, a thousand missed tackles, a few tries, some revised contracts and here we are jumping aboard again.
Seriously though, =\<$400 is a fair deal for both parties and where they are at.
I said a week back I’d be happy with 400ish on 1, so to hear it’s just under at 2 is a great result. We gave a little (extra year), and he gave a little (<$400 and <opposition’s offer).
A long time ago I was told by a very smart negotiator and poker player ā€œIf both parties come away from a negotiation fairly happy, but not giggling, then the correct and fair result was probably achievedā€.
I bet Richo has heard that before, whereas Fruit Pascals just learnt something new. šŸ˜Ž
I think this is what’s happened here with Doobs, and although I have been critical, he is my fav player until our next game out of respect for the way he has handled these negotiations. I was a bit concerned when he engaged with Isuk Measles. I thought the circus was about to hit concord again.

Choo Choo, all aboard the Doobie Express!!!
Faking injuries is such a keyboard warrior accusation

AD bulked up can develop into a strong 13. It’s his long term position. Latu needs an offseason at 7 with Luai at 6.

He’s a big lad 6’3 98kgs. Works hard and adds 6kgs of lean muscle and can play at 104kgs. With his ball skills would be invaluable and play 80 in the middle.

Over the years, I’ve been a critic of his no doubt. People were telling me pre knee injuries he was our best player and I didn’t see it. I also didn’t agree with it for the reasons you have outlined.
That said, I truly believe he has been in our top 3 this year and some games were won on his performances. That can’t be said for any of our more fancied halves.
He has often been accused of lazy defence and that’s true, however not much this year at all. He is also accused often of being slow. Maybe laterally, but in a straight line, he is very fast and has proven that quite a few times over the past 18 months.
His attitude has really improved and if that’s due to him sitting out for a few years injured and readjusting his goals then I’m all for it. The guy is one of our best this year. That is usually rewarded.
I can live with the extension he just received. I do agree he helped us secure some wins this season, just hope now that his future is secured he doesn’t back off.

Whatever Benji has on his mind, we all hope he settles on the spine.
13 Doueihi
9 Api
7 Madden
6 Luai
1 Bula.
That leaves Latu to develop his game in cup or get a few games from 14. He also needs to be fit for a solid 80min.
Rest of this year I would play AD at 7 with Latu at 14 , Latu needs to own the 7 before he is picked for first grade each week , so far he has only shown small bits , if we had a decent player to cover lock I would put Latu back to reserve grade at 7 fo the rest of the season not as punishment but to get him going , he has played very little footy this season

Good team...if we want to run last.

Madden is fill in only and he is quoted himself as accepting he will play that role in state cup. Benji has no plan to make him first choice halfback.

Yeah, nah. Just like the dolphins did with katoa, let Latu find his feet in first grade. He needs the time at the wheel this year to prepare for next season. Otherwise he has to start from ground zero next season!
It takes time to learn the craft and match fitness to play regular firsts as a halfback. I think that’s where he is at now, fitness isn’t there, he needs time to adjust. Can’t learn that in state cup.
This year is gone, we are now playing fur next season, we need to act accordingly.
We need help though to bring Latu skill set up as a controlling half for next season. As much add as I hate the entitled prat, cooper conk would be perfect as a short term off season trainer/mentor for Latu. He has commented several times on Latu’s lack of game management. Plus teach Latu long kicking game, which he/we needs! Make it happen Richo.

It's so difficult with us.

If we let Fainu be halfback this year, we develop him and everything but if the results aren't there, then it'll feel like we chucked him in before he was ready and didn't develop him right.

If we put him in at 14 and Douehi at 7, then are we stunting his growth and not preparing him for next year?

Then comes the final scenario which is what happens to us all the time. We develop him for another year and we still play shit but he plays a couple of good games and wants a release at the end of 2026.

It's all results dependent. I got no idea what we should do..

Fair call , I like the Cronk involved would be great

I like what we are doing with Latu. He is a good enough player to come off the bench and contribute for 20-30 minutes, so it's not like we are giving him token minutes. Doueihi outplayed him so the 7 is his for now. Latu will come again and get another crack. Hopefully by then he is feeling more confident and at home in first grade.

This year is this year and next year we can start worrying about during the off season.
I dont think we should be focussed on next year...leave things be as they are theres only 4 games to go, im sure they are working around Latu at 7 at training as well currently.
Dont need to muddy the waters we should be focussed on finishing the season as strong as possible to go into the off season with an upbeat positive mindset .
Theres still new players yet to arrive...i want to go into summer with optimism not the last memory being a 60 hiding

No they’re not he’s training as a 14, bit of lock and dummy half, occasionally half. I am at trading now, doobies at half. I also think getting Doubie to play lock but still to be heavily involved in the kicking game needs to be built into his game. That takes time to get right, we need his long kicking game and his torpedo bombs would be good as well. We don’t want start from scratch next season with all this. Toa is also at centre, no sign of naden and tinos not training.
