Sounds like more Weidler BS...very very petty and hypocritical if true

The NRL Integrity Unit is investigating comments made by Perth Bears coach Mal Meninga, who has publicly courted top players including Bulldogs pair Jacob Preston and Matt Burton in pursuit of a marquee star for the expansion franchise.

The NRL-owned Bears last week flew a News Corp journalist to Perth to try and get positive publicity for the club. However, the move has backfired after the Bulldogs complained to the NRL about Meninga openly courting their players, who are under contract until the end of 2027.

Burton's future at the Bulldogs has been the subject of ongoing speculation. The hypocrisy is astounding when the Dogs are all too happy to move on a player. I wonder if Benji was asked if he would take a trade-in after the game.

The Bulldogs complain about everything.

What a bunch of hypocrites, but whatever Gus does is all good and after yesterdays game Cameron Sir Dildo complaining about the refereeing again, they're never just good enough to win, there is always some excuse.

The clown said something like they'll have to send another text or email to the NRL, sounds like they are doing it on a regular basis, really happy we didn't land that fraud.

Apart from that God knows who Gus is going to lunch with and whispering sweet nothings in their ears.

Is there anymore Bears news or are they still in virtual hibernation ?
I’ve been thinking about Bears v Chiefs games, they’ll be a real test of travel and recovery !

Meanwhile PNG are given carte blanche and are allowed to sign players months before November 1. The more time goes on, the more the Bears seem to have been designed to fail. But we’re told it’s a level playing field lol.

PVL had been very anti perth from the start. I assume the broadcasters wanted them but he didn't.

Is the Nov 1 rule different for PNG? Luai was allowed to due to his clauses, AJ and Connor Watson had permission from their clubs.

Meninga has been very fortunate in his coaching career. He has had the privilege of motivating some exceptionally talented teams, both in Origin and at the international level.

As far as I'm concerned, his comment in 2011 was reprehensible, considering he spent his entire playing career feeding off the NSW/Canberra teat.

"Queensland once again stands triumphant, their success hiding the filth and rats that continue in the sewers and dark corners."

And now he's coaching a NSW foundation club in the Bears... this isn't going to end well.

I can see another Western Reds style failure coming.

No one in Perth cares about his thoughts on NSW. Only 15% of those who bought foundation memberships come from the east coast. It's a new club, norths are bringing nothing to the table.

What became.of the lawsuit?

I actually wondered why they did not do the Perth Jets.

Look the Bears fans are really passionate. Of the Jersey merch I see:
Wests Tigers,
Dragons,
Eels
Bulldogs (but less now then say 10 years ago).
Occasional Chooks and Broncos stuff.

I do see North Sydney Bears. I know people, young guys who have North Sydney Bears tattoo's.

Now not knocking them and not doubting the 15% figure. It's probably a good thing if most of their memberships come from Perth/WA. Just saying the fans are there.

NRL wrecked the bears. I really thought the Jets would better suit Perth. I do very rarely see Jets/newtown stuff but it's more from people being Retro I think.

It was settled out of court, but Mal stood by his words at the time, and still does.

Few coaches have ever used language as inflammatory as describing figures within the NRL as "filth and rats that continue in the sewers and dark corners."

What boggles my mind is that he also ran for political office.

David Sharpe's resignation raises more questions about the Bears franchise and his leadership.

I am fairly sure Mal never ran for political office but only talked loudly about becoming a candidate.

Singleton wanted to get on board and so did the Perth consortium with the Jets. But PVL just said no, it had to the bears. No reason given!
$30 mill from the consortium and good knows how much Singo would have put in. Up against $0 bid from the bears. And never questioned by anyone in the media.
Baffling.
