Coach Benji 👑

I think Benji has a lot to answer for, but getting rid of him doesn’t solve our main problem, which is our playing roster is simply crap. If anything, the allure of Benji is (and has been) the only thing that could change that.

Having to constantly read calls for his axing on here after every loss - mind you by the same people over and over - is just boring.
He might have appeal to play under. But what’s the point of bringing in players if they are going to flounder cos he can’t coach?

I actually say to give him another year …but I’m not expecting the roster to change much though beyond bringing in Averillo and junior Topou ,, .,,no salary cap left !

We all recognise that he’s very green, but this is a team on a journey with a poor lineup.
There’s no better time for him to get runs on the board than now. And as if we don’t want him to have that.

Bennett, Cleary or Gibson wouldn’t be doing much better here. Cleary didn’t! Even with Teddy, Moses etc. And remember Bennett at Newcastle.

Can’t deny we’ve fallen off a cliff, but if we get to 9 or 10 wins this year, we have to be honest and admit that it is still representative of an upward trajectory, especially for what has been achieved with a shell of a team.

To illustrate, in any other year our recent performances were par for the course. Now we expect better. That says something.

People will argue Benji has put the roster together so he is responsible for the short comings in the roster.
I personally think our problems are a combination of a lot of things and sure Benji being head coach must take some blame, but I don’t think any coach could do much better considering the budget at their disposal. The pathways road is our only hope as we have very little chance of securing very good NRL players from the market place

Rubbish. We got flogged to a side that had only won 1 game all season with our season on the line. Besides selections being shocking, they were flat from the get go. If St George didnt drop it 17 times, would have been a 50 point loss. This loss is rock bottom.
Second week in a row the game was handed to us on a platter by teams making so many errors.

He's a coach learning But...

Playing one up footy then a bomb does not win football games the team needs to aim to score 3-4 try's a game and we have totally forgotten how to offload or have been told by the coach not to

So strange that we went away from a game plan that was working

I think we need to take a moment to shift our focus from Luai, to the decision Benji made.

To tell your $1.2million dollar marquee signing and co-captain he isnt needed next year is a MASSIVE call.

The more time I've had to sit on this, I love it. Its probably stuffed our 2026 season, but long term, it's a great move.

For someone accused of being too chummy with the players, he sure as hell showed us that he puts the Wests Tigers ahead of his personal relationships with the players.

Well done Benji 👏👏👏👏

I'll put my hand up and say im not a huge fan of Benji as a coach, but im prepared to give him next year hopefully without any dramas, last year he had the Galvin crap to deal with, this year its luai, I don't think we can underestimate the disharmony luai jumping ship after all the tigers for life crap he dribbled on about, within the group.....as much as coaches, players say its had no affect the results show otherwise, im prepared to give benji next year without luai, and hopefully a settled halves pairing

We were flying prior to the horror injury run , you take out top class players from a team and they struggle , our injuries were to
KPP - Sam F - May Jnr - Luai - API ( suspension ) - Twally - Bulla - gee that’s out top end of the squad so Benji probably done well , no injuries could have us in the top 6 or 8 now , Luai announcing his move to png also probably didn’t help ,

The Tigers' capitulation has been very disappointing this year, maybe the most disappointing in recent years. And even though you can say this has been just another typical flop, with injuries playing a part, I think much of the blame must be attributed to Benji. Even allowing for the constant loss of key players, there's no we should have lost games by the margins we have or succumb to the Dragons last week. Benj is simply not motivating the players to put in. Coupled with that are the diabolical team selections and ineffective use of the bench. However, his biggest failure has been the poor strategies and complete lack of cohesion in attack. It's been a problem all year and our inability to score, despite regular domination of possession of territory, has meant that our defense has had to do too much. I like Benji but we have to be honest, the team has underperformed from about Round 10 onwards and it hasn't been due just to injuries. They've lost their steel and seem devoid of ideas with the ball. This has to be put on Benji and for this reason, I don't see us making a dent in the premiership, no matter who we have on our roster.
Of course, I hope I'm wrong.

If we can somehow get 10 or more wins in 2026 the scoreboard shows a natural progression from 4 or 5 seasons ago when we collected 2 spoons. Under those circumstances it would be a big call for a board to say, “we’re improving each year but not fast enough to our liking.”
I suppose now that the WT board has diminished influence in such matters anything is possible?

They have regressed over the season ..i hate making excuses around injuries , but they have had makeshift centers and backrowers all through that time … that makes things tough on both sides of the ball…

I’d give Benji another run next year… would be interesting to see how they can go over the course of the season with better injury luck …probably the ceiling is about 8-10th with this squad …

The seat will be warm for Benj next year

One thing I'll say for Benji, he does seem able to keep the players he wants. It's a very large number of important re-signings this year, esp. if it's true that Latu and Samuela re-sign soon, which would end up being 100% of young targets.

And whatever you think about the long-term prospect of Big Mak, there's no denying he was heavily pursued by rugby and we've re-signed him twice.

The temperature should be considerably warmer than warm going into his 4th season with no finals. Madge won the comp last year and his arse has copped third degree burns this year.

Yeah …most likely ….

Madge has got a few of the Broncos old boys after him though because he got the job when their mate Kevvie got axed
