    Croc attacks

Yes, I'm surprised as well. My understanding is that, of venomous animals, the order Hymenoptera (Bees, ants, wasps) is the biggest killer worldwide.

    If you say so.

You missed the point entirely, even though I explained it.

    Croc attacks

There were no figures to enable that assessment, but it is a good point you make. Human populations around almost all of the listed animals would almost certainly be larger than those near crocodile habitat. My point was more to do with the demonisation of crocodiles, as well as sharks etc, when...

Just to put all this hysteria into perspective. Australia 2001-2017; Human deaths caused by an animal Horses 172 Cows 82 Dogs 53 Kangaroos 37 snakes 37 Bees 31 Sharks 27 Crocodiles 21 So, mans best friend causes two and a half times the human deaths that crocodiles cause. Horses cause more...

Thanks BF. Although I wouldn't have had it any other way, I don't miss a lot of it.

    Croc attacks

Crocodiles are, often large, apex predators that occasionally prey on humans. Due to the natural human arrogance that people carry from being, most of the time, apex predators, and from ignorance about what the animals can actually do, they catastrophize whenever a human is attacked. Through...

    Croc attacks

Yes of course it is figuratively. Everything is theoretical until it happens. In my personal experience, of the three times I spoke of in my initial post, a firearm may have been useful in one. This is only so because, unusually, I was stalked on land and by luck alone I turned and saw the...

Yes, I agree with you there. You need to be careful about the advice you take, but asking good questions is a start.

    Croc attacks

That sounds more like a southpark episode. "It's coming right for us!" Chances are, the crocodile you see and can therefore shoot at is not one you have to shoot at. So you're not really protecting yourself from anything. Crocodiles are ambush predators. Most of the time, if you are being...

In some instances yes, but it depends on the circumstances of each animals behaviour. I think the approach also differs between states.

    Croc attacks

In Disneyland the crocodiles are animatronic, so not a threat. It is common sense to inform yourself with local knowledge if you intend to enter crocodile habitat. At least some of the locals will know enough to give you good advice. Really knowledgeable locals could also give advice about...

That's a photo of a freshwater croc, not an estuarine croc. Nowhere near as dangerous.

Actually that's one thing I still think about up here FNQ is using a cast net off the boat in dirty water. I dont put the rope loop around my wrist in case a croc grabs the net. I use the loop off the bank on the beach etc but not in deep murky water.

Yes, in a past life. Now, happily, I dont have to deal with that stuff anymore.

    Croc attacks

I managed crocs in the NT for 25 years. I have had three close calls where I was actively stalked by crocodiles and probably another three not so close. In all but one, I worked out what was going on early enough to get out of the way in time, and on the other I just got lucky. A couple of times...
