    Opinions on Best Way Forward

Pains me to say, there’s no chance we’re getting anywhere near the 8. I strongly believe this latest upheaval has taken the wind out of the sails. The strong management, stability, and care factor from the top is a crucial element for success. Will we be able to convince a player to sign on for...

I know, I was a Balmain fan, grew up in the area. Lost interest in the game for a few years. Only got interested again when a mates son started playing with WT. I had sponsorship thoughts, but things became too whimsical. My post was purely thoughts on a prosperous solution without emotional...

Yeh, that’s my team too. But there are some powerfull untouchables hellbent on self destruction. Looking at the situation is like watching a kangaroo with a broken leg and doing nothing. If a split did occur, I probably wouldn’t have a favourite team anymore, wouldn’t invest so much into any...

I hear what you’re saying Ink, the options in 1999 were limited..have a hybrid team or fade away into oblivion. It’s different now, it’s an urgent necessity but with options, a fan base can have the time for a managed migration, that in some ways for many would be sliding into an old pair of...

    Opinions on Best Way Forward

I’ve given this question some thought. The best way forward? The NRL would need to give both foundation clubs what they want. Give Magpies a stand alone agreement at 50% valuation and likewise Balmain handed to a wealthy consortium. While it’s possible both may fail, there’s a very strong...

Can I ask a serious question? Is there a new member of the “gang of four” now that Romero has been eliminated? Or is it now known as the “gang of three?” I would have thought the numbers very important?

I read a news item somewhere at the time that Romero had leaked to a journalist. It seemed odd (if true) that other members had not previously been suspended for the same thing? Difficult to apply any logic to HBG behaviour?

Good post Enz. The statement from HBG also states “Our focus is on stability, unity and success both on and off the field.” I can’t help but wonder where we’d be if they didn’t have that focus? Stability, unity and success seem to be our biggest failures.

That was at a time when the board was heavily stacked with magpies, Balmain defaulted on a loan and the board increased from 7 to 9 members. A lot going on.

It’s always good to have the input of a magpies fan.

Agree, HBG dragged their heels when considering BOF for chair, because they were unsure of his level of independence.

The best possible outcome all round would be to restore both foundation clubs with each celebrating their proud history. I hope this is what the ARL and NRL have discussed with interested parties.

As creditors they put that investment at risk for a very modest return. If the club doesn’t perform the debenture holders don’t. The original 50 pound wasn’t worth much. A few short years later I had enough from my paper run to buy in. 😂

The future of the Wests Tigers brand after 2030 is uncertain and a subject of intense speculation and conflict. While the current majority owners (Holman Barnes Group/Wests Magpies faction) have stated they are committed to the Wests Tigers name, there is a strong push from some elements to...

Since the 20 debenture system was introduced magpies have not won a Grand Final (excluding the Tigers 05 win) but have won 8 wooden spoons. After 70 years of doing the same thing you would at least think 🤔 hey this is not working.

What I don’t understand is why they don’t sell their 90%. Do they think having Wests Tigers on the books gives them some level of kudos? Or a path to dovetail Magpies closer to re-entry? Maybe Albo could step up with a social cohesion grant of $2k to buy out the debentures?

All teams get the same amount. it’s not the amount which produces various levels of a teams’ competitiveness.

Yes doesn’t surprise me if players are now wanting more to stay after threatening to leave. I wonder where this cultural change has its roots?🤔

Pacey, if I had the single use magic wand the one thing I would change is.. Increase the cost of the 20 debentures to say $450k. This hopefully would encourage some serious input and it wouldn’t take long before the HBG board was miraculously meritorious. People behave differently when they have...
