    Nuffies top to bottom

Only eight games, sadly, otherwise he'd be there. My favourite Gildart memory was how when he got loaned to the Roosters he immediately gave an interview crapping on the Tigers by saying he felt he'd now joined a proper team, then promptly played two games for the Roosters and never made an NRL...

    Nuffies top to bottom

Worst-ever players has been discussed a lot on here but I decided to put together a team of our least consequential regulars - just blokes about whom even the most dedicated fans are likely to think "oh yeah, that guy". A few rules: must have debuted since we last made finals, must have played...

    The Cambo Curse

"Dad, when I grow up I want to be just like Jack Buchanan."

    The Cambo Curse

I mean, looking at some of the nuffies we've picked over the last few years it would be hard to argue with those kids' judgement.

Bet he wishes he kept him now.

It's a bit circular, this. One could equally argue that he only played behind bad packs because teams with good ones didn't choose to sign him due to, y'know, him not being that great a player. I always get annoyed at the idea that players leave the Tigers and suddenly become amazing as I think...

    Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

"Fraud" is emotive but he certainly wasn't the player he was anticipated to be. I think the point is why he was a 6 not a 7: sure, he had a good running game and his support play is strong but he was a poor kicker, had no game management and his selection of options in attack fell to pieces...

    The halves problem

24 hours ago "the halves problem" was that we didn't have any. Now it's that we have too many. Never happy, are we?

Lolohea was phenomenally talented - I seem to recall him tearing up in under 20s, looking like peak Ponga or Jarryd Hayne. His first problem was that he was completely passive, so unable or unwilling to take charge that he made Luke Brooks look like Julius Caesar. I recall seeing him playing...

    Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

It's not really a question about whether I'm "happy" or not, what I'm saying is that there's only so much any team can do to overhaul a team in free agency - and actually we've been among the most active over the past couple of years (as we should have, given the shocking state of the roster...

    Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Yes but all those players come with significant question marks. Fogarty is a career mid-level half coming off one really good season, Thompson's form was way down last year, Fifita was on the massive outer at the Titans, Brown was widely panned as a horrendous overpay, Robson is pretty limited...

    Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Yes, and we are continuing to build the roster. We signed several players for this season, headlined by KPP who was one of the biggest moves in the comp. The idea that the Tigers are "silent" in free agency is just plain wrong: over the past couple of seasons, we have been about the most active...

    Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

"Silent" other than having signed Luia, Turuva, May x2 and KPP in the past year and a bit, that is. I suspect any cap room we have is being put aside to extend and increase the contracts of young players we want to keep, as it absolutely should be. If we decided on a whim to bring in some...

    Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Well that's why you want to have good player management. There's no hard and fast rule and you can't pre-judge any situation. What I do know is that Penrith probably doesn't win the 2023 grand final without Crichton and on that basis alone it's not a good idea to say you're never going to keep a...

    Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

If we've got someone coming through who is likely to be ready to be first choice starter in 2028 but not 2027 it makes perfect sense to keep the incumbent for 2027. Most players are capable of being professional and playing hard for a club they're leaving. Case in point: Stephen Crichton signed...

Again, he's the 29th player in a list of 30. Do I think Kotoni Staggs would "bully" Aublix Tawha or Delouise Hoeter in opposed training? I mean, yeah, quite possibly - that's why they're fourth or fifth choice on the depth chart. The bar we're trying to clear with this signing isn't Taylan May...

There really couldn't be a better encapsulation of fan forums than slating the current incumbent at a position who appears to be just about to be re-signed and instead wish casting as a replacement a player who has never played the position and doesn't appear to be anywhere near the club's plans.

Clauses in contracts that are deemed unconscionable cannot be enforced regardless of whether both parties agreed to them. If the court determines that Parra refusing to either re-sign Lomax or let him play elsewhere in the NRL is a restraint of trade it won't matter what Lomax signed.
