I think we need to start with Liddle and play him till he almost drops and then make the change. At least then you get the most out of our best DH. Who knows we will get extra minutes every week instead of guessing how long he is going to last.
Twal wasn’t penalised for the ‘strip’ - the ref told them it was a 10m penalty so it was nothing to do with milking.
I wasn’t sure if he said 10 metres or 10 minutes. If it was 10 metres, why did they wait until after the guy had gotten up to play the ball?
I don’t know. At first I was sure it was for a ‘strip’ but then the refs said something like ‘it was for 10 metres’ - obviously in response to someone questioning it. I haven’t watched it again so there’s a chance I mis-heard.
Bigger issue for me was the way the ref handled those penalties. Giving Penrith meaningless warnings which allow them to re-set and rest on their try line, instead of us being given the opportunity to take advantage of the situation is what cost us.
This is what Ivan was referring to the presso and I agree.
yeah that actually hindered us way more than helped, it killed our momentum
Our attack looked 2000-2017 , absolute garbage , no control , no one took control
But we will pay for it next week ,
I think Brooks was trying to take control but just got frustrated out of the game by errors out of his control. You can’t take control when every time you have the ball somebody gifts it back to the opposition.
Im not going to knock our team for the defeat against the Pennies,I honestly think they are trying too hard to win the ruck and ball possesion to get on top of the game, and in doing so they start to panic and in turn lose control of the situation which then gives confidence to the opposition to step the pressure up…the good side to this is that the team scrambled well in defense and didnt hang their heads as in previous years…they showed very good resilience when the pressure was really on…We are now in the second third of the comp and they must regather and get some momentum going so they can finish off the season on a high…
Injuries to crucial players hasnt helped at all,but the depth players have been doing their best in my opinion…
Dogs have been playing no where near as bad as there 3-7 record suggest.
Won’t be an easy game.
Yeah I’m worried too Eddie , big mobile pack , we lose the ruck again like tonight , scary bananas :frowning:
Dogs have big pack , but awful attack. We should beat them if we play half decent. Need to ensure changes made. I think Fonua, Aloiai, Reynolds ( if fit), and McIlwrick should start for MCK, Rochow, Marshall, and Liddle.
We made Penrith look like the 2016 Qld SOO side , they were pretty good , but not great
We could quite easily do the same to the Dogs , especially after 440 + tackles
Dogs will suit our style of play. They are not quick of the line like panthers. Hence less pressure on our ball players. However, I agree we cant afford to make same errors as last night, otherwise there will be another tackling barrage for Tigers.
Did anyone else notice our lack of ability to put panthers on their backs in tackles. They were always on their knees and hence quick play the balls. we couldnt recover by the speed of the play the balls. All our players were nearly always put on their backs in every tackle. there is a lack of detail in our tackling/wrestling technique.
We lost the ruck badly , some of it is a size issue, lot of it was technique issues
The game plan early worked , targeting in behind their markers and slowing there line speed down , but as usual we don’t score early , get frustrated , lose patience and we try a low percentage play , pass , kick and lose our grip on the game
Then we throw more dumb plays after the other dumb plays and try and play catch up , put massive pressure on our defence
We just looked like we did everything slower than they did.
Their line speed and PTB was faster than ours all night.
Stats show we completed at 77% (30/39) vs 81% (34/42) and 44% possession.
It felt like it was, penalty, penalty, our ball, our error - their ball, penalty, penalty all second half.
I guess you can’t make mistakes if you don’t have the ball…
Does anyone know our completion rate and total sets we have in the 2nd half?
By ‘ line speed’ do you mean being offside until the last 10 minutes?
I don’t know mate. I couldn’t really see that on TV. Do you feel Penrith were offside for 30 minutes of the 2nd half? Is that why we lost?
The offside is hard to tell on the TV but i think they were given latitude in the second half and the refs were looking to even the penalty count. Penrith were slowing the play down, laying on the tackled player, hands in the ruck and none were pulled up.
No doubt. I think Finch said it on Fox Sports. How can one team be perfect in the 1st Half and give away no penalties, then that same team is suddenly giving away all the penalties.
It’s obvious to see, and I’m not saying I like it, but it happens in almost every game.
Last night was right up with some of those Saturday arvo games the ABC showed on a when they got the bottom game of the weekend. It was painful from start to finish, and Cummins and his mate were to blame.
He did not cost us win, last night showed how far we are behind a real top four team, but he did spoil the enjoyment. People expert more yuan what we saw last night
