‘BEAU KNOWS’ WHATS BEST FOR HIS PREPARATION

Wests Tigers winger Beau Ryan feels the television work he does mid-week helps him prepare for a match.
>
Ryan came under heavy criticism last week after turning in a poor performance against Souths at ANZ Stadium.
>
The match was his only true blunder on what has been another fine season for the versatile winger turned full-back. He bounced back with another strong display in the win over Penrith on Sunday.
>
The success of his weekly ‘Beau Knows’ segment on the Channel Nine Footy Show has also seen Ryan’s popularity soar amongst rugby league supporters who enjoy his light hearted look at life.
>
It was due to this success that the critics were quick to stab Ryan in the back following the Souths match.
>
“People ask me is it a distraction or is it part of my preparation. I believe everyone does something on their day off to get away from training and away from each other,’’ Ryan told 2SM’s Talkin Sport program.
>
“Some people play golf, some play cricket, some go to the beach or whatever they want to do.
>
“I started doing the television work at the start of the year and my preparation was good. I do a couple of hours on the Wednesday morning on my day off and then head home and relax and watch it on the Thursday night.
>
“It has sort of become part of my preparation for the games on the weekend.
>
“Tim Sheens accepted that and it was my little escape from training and footy.
>
“It allows me to get out onto the street and to meet the fans. I got into a bit of routine and had a good balance there.
>
“Yes, I had a poor game against Souths and a lot of people used the tv work against me, saying I was doing too much.
>
“All I have to do is perform on the field and that will shut everyone up.
>
“I’m enjoying the work and I hope I can do it for a long time to come. It is not a distraction to me. If anything, it is an added bonus.”
>
Ryan also said the players were determined to keep working hard on their defence ahead of the finals.
>
“Everybody knows we can score points from anywhere on the field,’’ Ryan said.
>
“Our defence has been something we have focused on really hard from the start of the year and our assistant coaches in Royce Simmons and Peter Gentle do a great job in this area.
“I have been at the club for four years now and this is the most focused we have been on defence.
>
“We will grab each other at the end of training and individually go through things.
>
“In years gone by, we probably have overlooked that and would have kicked goals or play touch after training.
>
“We are now pretty focused. Defence wins games these days and we proved that on Sunday.
>
“If we can keep a side such as the Panthers with the likes of Michael Jennings and Michael Gordon to just 18 points, then I think we are going pretty well.”

Focussed on Defence….Hmmm intersting...

Go Beau....

I never understood the criticism he copped about the TV stuff, it's hardly the reason he played poorly against Souths. If that was the case wouldn't anybody who has a full time job such as Ryan suffer due to having a hobby outside of work. It mainly came from Geyer who shoots first and thinks second.

Completely agree 100% its basically tall poppy syndrome, he stands out above the rest.
