2016 Olympic Games

And the host of the 2016 Olympic Games is …......... **Rio de Janeiro**. Rio eased to victory in the final round of voting beating Madrid by 66 votes to 32.The other two nominations were Chicago & Tokyo, the only city of the four to have hosted an Olympics before. It's also the first time a South American city will host the Olympics.

Brazil also has the 2014 Soccer World Cup. For that reason, I think the games should've gone to one of the other cities. But, for Brazil, their economy will grow so much during those few years.

However, Asia just has the games, Europe have it next in 2012, and America have had their fair share of summer and winter games, so I think it's good to change it up a bit.

The Chicago bid had some huge names behind it, the powerhouses being Oprah Winfrey and Michelle Obama. Barrack flew over to Copenhagen to address the committee but obviously it didnt change their opinion.

On a side note, anyone have a favourite Olympic sport? I love watching the Handball. I went to it in 2000, and thought it was an interesting game that involves lots of skill, tactics, and mainly, agility. Also enjoy the table tennis & diving

dont blame it on Rio. they need all the love they can get. In the end it will be beneficial for all of us, especially those out of us who might travel there one day for reasons that even elude us. Good to see Pele in tears again for happy reasons. Chicago is famous enough, so is Tokyo, and Spain had Barcelona not long ago. I just feel Rio needs the exposure most because it might go a little way in making the streets safer and brighter. We can all do our little bit to make the world a better place as heralded in by the Olympic comittee in voting for Rio as the stage of the world.

Im mainly glad the USA didnt get it, how many Olympics have they had? It'd be around half a dozen im guessing.

Hopefully this will lead to Rio making the streets safer, cleaning up poverty, and being beneficial for everyone.

Even though I live here, I'm glad the US didn't get another Olympics. The news here is so self centered that if they got the Olympics, it would have been on the news all day everyday till 2016.

Thank god Rio got it. USA has had it plenty of times and I can't believe 2016 will be South Americas first. A real chance for Brasil to really emerge as a nation.

The sport I like watching most is basketball. Not a major fan of the sport but the Aussies are always underdogs and they get to play some amazing athletes like Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard and co in the Dreamteam.

I like watching the women's basketball, the Opals have some great players in there I hope they win gold next time because they really deserve it after 3 straight silvers.
