2018 Off-Contract List

Just looking, at our off-contract list for 2018, and I am so glad to see that we shouldn't have the signing debacle that was this year. There are a few young names in there that we should lock up, like Esan Marsters and MWZ, but I can't see too much interest coming from other clubs to sign our players for the rest of this year and probably early next year.
TBH, I'm actually really looking forward to seeing other clubs go through what we've gone through this year, and hopefully the media spotlight will be off us for a while.
Here's the current list:

Benji Marshall, Esan Marsters, JJ Felise, Tim Grant, Kevin Naiqama, Sauaso Sue, Malakai Watene-Zelezniak.

Esan and JJ would be the only ones that I would look at keeping.
There are plenty of good players on the market.

I’d try and retain Marsters , MWZ, JJF and Sue for depth. However if the Roosters are paying these players (Buzz’s figures) below, none of our off contract players should get more than $200k. Marsters would be at the top of that list .
Roosters; Ryan Matterson $200,000, Daniel Tupou $220,000, Mitchell Aubusson $280,000, Isaac Liu $200,000, Zane Tetevano $120,000, Sio Siua Taukeiaho $150,000
,Joseph Manu $150,000, Nat Butcher $200,000, Victor Radley $120,000.

P.S I’m not taking Buzz’s figures as gospel . Just pointing out we have to be smart when resigning

We should do a sneaky raid through a 3rd party to poach Matterson, Liu & Taukeiaho for $50k more!

Back ended contracts????

These will proably impact our ability to compete on the market unless we blitz it with wins on the park.

I wonder of they exist and whether we will find ourselves paying overs for players at the tail end of their careers.

Yes Watto. it would be good timing for a sneaky raid.

The Roosters will be under scrutiny with every offer and approach to their players, particularly after Buzz released those figures. We should use the Tellycraps figures supplied to them most likely by Roosters because they were feeling the heat on their TPA's and cap pressure.

If I were Pascoe (or David Warwick) I would approach Joe Kelly, Politis and Co, with a proposal.
*Either release Tetevano (listed at $120K) and Sio Siua Taukeiaho listed at $150K) for an upgrade to the WTs or…...we start making public upgraded offers in the Media to each Roosters player listed at $350K or less by the Daily Telegraph . Each week we will give Buzz or someone else at the Telly the heads up that we have offered playX say $50k or more than what they printed.
By about week six when all no one has left the Roosters the heat about their TPA's will be at boiling point. They have 12 players listed at $350K or less. That's at lot of heat and speculation in the media they would like to avoid.
Latrell Mitchell $350,000, Ryan Matterson $200,000, Daniel Tupou $220,000, Mitchell Aubusson $280,000, Isaac Liu $200,000, Michael Gordon $250,000, Jayden Nikorima $350,000, Zane Tetevano $120,000, Sio Siua Taukeiaho $150,000, Joseph Manu $150,000, Nat Butcher $200,000, Victor Radley $120,000
The time to act is now. While it's still fresh.

That can backfire badly when players resign with the club and snub our higher offer. Makes us look like an unattractive club to join…

Yes, it can but I think it's worth the risk. At least stage one of my proposal.

Sio Siua Taukeiaho on $150,000 a year until end of 2020, ha ha ha ha ha. Although he had a few knee injuries, a goal kicking second rower of his ability would have to be worth at least $350K

Judging by that list we're not going to have much money to recycle on any top shelf players which is disappointing. Looks like our only chance for a marquee signing is using the current space we have open.

Sheenius is in town looking to recruit NRL players for SL….apparently he is after one of our back rowers

Or the figures are crap

The problem with our off contract list is even letting them all go hardly frees up the money to buy a marquee player

if we were to have a go at any of the players off contract, i reckon we should have a crack at these guys, all of them are minimal money currently:

Sio Siua Taukeiaho - Chooks - young big strong skilful back rower, who kick goals
Joseph Manu - Chooks - young, fast and can sniff out the try line
Shannon Boyd - Raiders - he is huge .. !! young and has plenty of go forward in him

would take Taukeiaho anyday

I like Marsters and DWZ. I wouldn’t be too fussed about the others.

I'm very interested to see how Sue goes next year. I thought he was really good at the start of this year and towards the back end. He struggled during the middle half, but I think the concussions had a lot to do with that. One of my favourite players. Would really like to see him retained.

The try he scored to help us beat Manly, where he brushed off Taupau like the bodybuilding mosquito that he is, was a career highlight.

Great option as a bench front rower, especially with depth in the position and someone like Grant, Twal, or Eiso trying to take his spot.
