Wasnt Slater just a reserve grade at one stage? Talk about criticism for criticisms sake.

Just my opinion mate, I'm entitled to it just as much as the next person. Macdonut just stated we have no room to move, yet were still after people? It's total crap, we have MM plus a couple of our own juniors waiting for a spot/chance.

Wasnt directed at you X-Pac. Sorry if that is how it seems. It was directed at the Shifty's criticism of the club trying exploring picking up talented young players from QLD cup. No problem with criticism if it is worthwhile. Shifty's isnt.

They are different points Shifty. You can criticise the club for not producing name signings but that doesnt mean the club shouldnt also explore no name signings. Dont need to be Judge Judy to realise the flaws in your logic.

Regardless, I am not a big fan of name signings. A club like ours always ends up paying overs. We dont need to spend 200,000-300,000 on a 32 year old winger. The only areas that we should look at spending money on are a half back (but the market is very lean) or a prop (this appears to becoming less of an issue with the development of our current roster). Look at the Roosters who have spent a fortune on big name signings (to the detriment of junior development) in the past few years. Its no surprise that the Roosters performed better when Beetson (known for focusing on unheralded young players) was heading their recruitment. We should only pay money for a big name signing when it is the right player (such as Ellis) not because we feel there is a perceived need to sign a marquee player every year to keep the likes of you happy.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't it sheens who said he wanted to develope our juniors? That worked and we won a premiership. Now he's buying other clubs juniors forcing ours to look for a place elsewhere. And wasn't it sheens who said 1 marque player a year? I'm sorry but Im sick of hearing ifs and getting buts..

Go re-read Sheens quote and then look up "try" in the dictionary.

Are you suggesting we should ignore potential champions because we have made a decision to develop our juniors or purchase marquee players? Talk about being stuck in the mud. Thank god you arent in charge of our recruitment.

I have no problem with decent criticism of the club and Sheens. Criticisng Sheens for picking Morris is fair. Criticising the club for not getting a marquee signing makes no sense unless you can show there is an appropriate player out there we could have signed (who would have fitted within our playing and salary structure). That is what smart football management is about. My biggest problem in the past has been our desire to pick up marquee players because we could - Scott Sattler, Sam Harris, Nick Graham, Jamal Lolesi - rather than focusing on whether the player was the right choice.

So ur content with consigned trying… I don't disagree with anything u posted, the simple fact is I am not happy with our recruitment and I've made it known. U call it criticism, I call it expressed opinion.

How many specialist fullbacks do we actually have? (as opposed to guys who can fill in at fullback)

Shannon Gallant? Maybe Blake Lazarus who hasn't played a competitive match in a couple of years?

I don't see this as a problem if the price is right. If he cuts in Sydney more power to us. If he's not up to it he plays for BRET or the Magpies (or Campbelltown) and then legs back to Cairns.

He's a 5/8.. can never have enough halves. I imagine he would come on a 2nd tier contract.

Just reading the link i would think if the Cowboys offered him anything near the Tigers and Parra he would join them.

If the kid wants to play fullback hed be nuts going to Parra considering hed be stuck behind Hayne who is too good to play on the wing.

Im happy for us to get him if hes got potential. If he is scoring a try a game in QLD Cup, all be it being QLD cup he obviously knows how to snuff tries out which shows at least some signs of being a good FB.

Worth a go.

Gallant pound for pound is one tough little footballer, but iam afraid I dont think he is the long term answer to our no1\. So I think the club should be at least looking at bolstering the position.
In saying that I really think our priority should be the forwards, we seem to have a knack at developing backs but little luck in the forwards, especially the engine room

Considering the talk about Meaney looking to England and the uncertain futures of Hanbury and Charlie H I can't see the problem in investing in a guy to bring through the program on a second tier of State Cup contract
