my sister and I are also going to Vietnam next year. We are also both in our 40s, but unlike you we have been before and can't wait to get back. Stryker knows what he is talking about and I can't really add any more except to say don't go to Nha Trang, we found it dirty and touristy - we went on to Mui Ne for 5 nights and it was great - beaches were clean and the food was fantastic. I'm afraid I didn't do the motorbikes last time, maybe I will get a double this time.
We are going to Hanoi, Sapa, Halong Bay, Hoi An (must eat the brownies at Cargo Bar and have dinner in a little family run restaurant on the river), maybe Hue and now I'm thinking Danang.
We are going in July - I know it will be wet and hot but we are also going to the Netball world champs in Singapore on the way through.
