Ben Barba - the Bronco

Ben Barba is officially a Bronco for 2014 and onwards.

What are your thoughts on this? I think guys like this shouldn't be able to benefit monetarily if they are released this way.

I don't mind in all honesty. If they aren't happy where they are they shouldn't be forced to stay, it'll end up being negative for both the club and the individual if they are

My opinion would be this Yep let the players do it once in their career

If they want to break another contract , the player must wear some of the blame and cost if they wish to leave

Maybe even set up a particular part of the NRL which handles each case separately and makes a judgement

Think of it this way , if you or I wish to break a contract of any description it comes at a costs to US

Players need to realize they are accountable for their actions and if you sign a bad deal , no one forced you to sign it , it was your decision We need some young people of today to realize just because you don't like it doesn't mean you don't have to do it

If I was part of the NRL I'd be tempted to make these blokes do even 3 months military training to put some responsibility ,respect and accountability on their plates

Can you imagine Blake ferguson doing military training? I reckon he'd give it away after an hour.

Couldn't agree more. Try being in the mines, or an interstate truckie. Many dads can't see their kids enough only difference is their pay packet wouldn't allow them frequent flyers.

personally i feel player welfare is a very important thing if you can't get the player to be happy off the field he wont be happy on it. I have no problem with seeing a player getting a release on one condition, the contract is transferred directly to the new club with no financial benefits, the way the system is at the moment where you can get a new contract once seeking a release and could potentially earn double the figure you initially signed on for the year. Whats stopping a club telling a player to say to his partner go move to the gold coast (closer to the new club) for instance and i will say i cant live without you etc get a release, the players contract with his old club becomes void and he earns double or more at the new club. thankfully barbas contract remains the same at the broncs so i have no problem

They should have made him pay his own transfer fee. Greg Eastwood paid his to come back from England out of his own pocket.

These kids need to learn if you make a mistake ,sometimes you have to live with it

What will happen when they hit the real world when they retire (just remember the average NRL players career is about 55 games ) that they can do what they want ,when they want and have no accountability attached to their actions

Unfortunately there are people in this world who will take advantage of these blokes in a heartbeat

You and Blake Ferguson are dogs in my eyes. Sure family means a lot to me as much as the next person but you decided to sign those papers and you agreed. Soon every player who doesn't wanna play in a team will say "family issues".

Like people have said they should work as a brickie or truckie for the rest of the contract.

Josh Dugan did it. And said it was the worst few months of his working career.

The club that gets the player should pay compensation for the duration of the contract that was forfeited by the player who moved.
It could be an upfront payment. It could be a player exchange. It could be a non compete clause to rest that player against his old club. Or a combination.

C'mon TB he is obviously breaking the move in two parts

Its crazy what these guys stick in their contracts , like the young halfback coming back from Canberra to the Broncos

The Broncos didn't want a bar of him , the Raiders spend a lot of time and effort into getting him where he is , and then he wants a contract release to go back to Brisbane

I think it's wrong, plain and simple and I really hate it that the Broncos always end up being the beneficiary of these talented 'homesick' Queenslanders. Why can't some of the good players be homesick for Concord? :mrgreen:

It's easy solution all nsw clubs just don't sign these blokes when all they wanna do is go home Brisbane didn't want nothing to do with barba or Milford but as soon as they get a whisper that the qld blokes want out off there club down south they come knocking so easy don't sign them
