Benji 2025

His first year there with Neil Henry,. Five seasons with David Furner and the rest with Sticky
Isnt it terrible at this time of the year we cant think of anything to talk about but the wrestling coach ,Not that theres anything wrong with that.a la Seinfeld .Sorry im bored.

Penrith did and they had a little success with Ivan?
They did that because they were worried they would lose Nathan. But anyway I reckon Ivan has been blessed to have the talent that came through when it did, if anyone else got the job I reckon they might’ve still had the success they they’ve had. Maybe not the GF every year but easily top 4 each year with the talent that’s come through for them.

It does'nt matter why they resigned him.The fact is he has developed the young players through to be consistent and winners. Credit has to be given to the coach and his assistants. I think Madge would have a similar effect if brought back.

Unfortunately he wouldn’t. If he was brought back players will want out due to his harsh training methods and it sets us back even more. The club won’t even consider Madge should Benji fail.

That's the problem with this club. We look for soft option every time. A bit of tough love never hurt anyone, just our precious princesses.

There’s a difference between tough love and too far. On game day some of our boys looked so tired from training they struggled to play. Some players can handle it, some even love it but not everyone is capable of handling it. Madge needs certain players to coach his style of footy, he never could get them at least not all he wanted anyway.

Well that dispels the myth we don’t have a wrestling coach..... Just not a very good one.... He should go back to canberra..

Babic is shit. Best wrestling matts in the southern
hemisphere. Jokes aside, the wrestle is a perception
thing,
depending on how slow the ruck is & who is policing
it. We desperately need another ref. 1 watching the
ruck the other marshalling the 10m, game is a joke.

Yep OK... You've clearly made yiur mind up... But it's no perception it's a real thing and goes a long way to determining games

The difference is , the ones that can handle it, generally are winners and the rest are not first graders. Culture is built on hard work consistently. That's why the successful clubs continue to be successful. It's not about being unable to handle it.

Well regarded wrestling coach.
The Raiders boys love him.
He's got a fair resume.

I think the issue with our wrestle was our players were either a) too young (it's not easy for teenagers and 20 year olds to match seasoned NRL players in this regard) b) reserve grade standard c) poorly disciplined senior players

Time and hard work is the only thing that will address A, recruitment and depth address B and hopefully a mirror and some reflection will address C.

I think the real issue is that we failed to embrace it way back when Melbourne first introduced it.
Whilst other clubs have been teaching their 15/16 year olds the art, we went another way. When other team’s young blokes graduated to NRL, they were already experienced. Ours aren’t.

Yep I was thinking this too. Someone with more knowledge might tell me im wrong, but I would have a stab and guess wrestling is not a feature of training until first grade at the Tigers. All well and good until you half your side is stacked with kids. Underskilled and physically underdeveloped against full grown men who have been doing it for years.

I think for a long time , the tigers were banking on the nrl clamping down and limiting the influence across the game . By the time they did clamp down , the horse had bolted and there was no return to the old ways . Players couldn’t unlearn what they already knew .
As @Tucker said , we turned up at the party way too late . The nrl should have stamped it out in 06, when the storm brought it in . But at the time , they had a real vested interest in keeping the storm strong , which they kind of still do , and only really clamped down on it when serious injuries became a thing eg. The chicken wing , cannonball etc .
They didn’t favour the storm per se , they didn’t not either . I can see the Bears getting similar treatment and even more so the PNG team , and potential South Island team . Those 3 being the most likely / confirmed next 3 teams . All 3 will not be allowed to fail.
It will be interesting how the warriors react in coming years to this type of governance .
