Benji Legacy

Watching the parra/dragons game yest and before the kickoff the commentators were saying that benji said that " last year he was UNMOTIVATED & UNFIT "

Its a bit of a slap in the face for the Tigers club, and if you read between the lines you can make the following assumptions;

1\. Benji asked for a 5 year contract knowing the Tigers would say no or offer substantially less.
2\. Benji knew that this would be his opp to walk away from the club as they could not agree to extended terms.
3\. Benji's passion at the Tigers was gone and he wanted to leave pretty much from the beginning of the season. Maybe due to Sheens & Beau Ryans exit. It wasn't diff to see from his on field performances that he wasn't that interested.
4\. He claimed when he signed with Rugby, it wasn't for the money…which was financially true and based on the above I now see he wanted "out from the tigers" at almost any cost/price.

Moving forward 8 months and yest performance was really a shell of the former great player he was. No doubt if he puts the work in he will improve and his combinations will improve with the drag players. But compare the following;

1\. Tigers offered Benji a 3 year contract for $2.4M approx.
2\. Signed with Dragons for 2.5 years for $1.1M approx.

Thats a lot of moolah to drop and apart from reflecting badly for Benji, I have to question his player manager....isn't the role of a manager to get his client the best deal ??? Its like bizzaro world negotiations......holding out for less money. In that respect I really have to thank Benji for knocking back our offer and to the Dragons for giving us an extra $200k for the privilege.

Finally, back to the Tigers, how good is it knowing that we did not waste $2.4M on a player who was "UNMOTIVATED" to be at the Tigers and instead probably now have the money to sign our brightest future players at the club. The nightmare could have been keeping Benji and losing brooksy, moses, siro & Teddy.

Makes me shudder just thinking about it.

Tauber has been the worst thing to happen to Marshall, an incompetent amateur

Who could forget his comments when Benji was involved in a police investigation with the Maccas incident …a clueless fool

yesterday confirmed to any doubters that Benji moving on was a blessing for the WT…Benji should've gone to Japanese rugby whgich he wanted to do a few years back...the competition in Japan is at his current level,

Benji must have the same love for the Dragons as he did for the Tigers last year…..because his form was exactly the same.

I mean lets be honest........how many of us laughed when that pass flew over the sideline !!!

We've heard so many comments regarding how he wasn't fit but now he is or he had lost the passion but now he has it back. The reality is that he is simply not the player he once was.

His manager is a fool. Benji needed someone to give him a dose of reality and he had a fool telling him that it will all work out and its everyone elses fault.

We came out of this whole thing a lot better off. Benji a lot worse off. More than likely the Dragons will suffer as well.

Look I'm Benji's biggest critic , but you have to give him at least 3-4 weeks to build some combinations with other players

I squirmed when I saw the headline on the NRL site…."Benji's Dragons " etc

An out of form newcomer steals the headlines....bit of a slight on the dragon players who have been doing the hard yards all year, embarrassing for the dragons fans and players i thought

As a RL follower I was sorta hoping Benjis spin on the last couple of years (unmotivated/overweight etc)had some merit ,& that he cld possibly be the player he once was & entertain us all again…
But his sad performances at the Auckland Blues suggested those days are all over for Benji-he was abysmal & Kirwan ,who owed him nothing, called it.
For what its worth,Price threw him under a bus by playing him yesterday in a desperate attempt to save his own job,& unfortunately it may end up accelerating the demise of both of them
The coach Benji needed(ie someone he cld learn from & reinvent his game )was Bellamy, but i dont think either Benji or tauber have sufficient grasp on reality to see this.
Dont think its gonna end well for Benji or Price at the dragons

He is just full of bs.

Go and play some bloody footy. That's what you are good at. Srslsy how hard is it to say 'no comments'?

Notice how benji never runs the ball anymore….he is just constantly looking at long cutout passes or putting players through gaps or the ever "no look pass".....when benji starts to run the ball again he may actually become first grade standard again.

RUN BENJI RUN

Hard to run when he has defenders in his face, its why he needs dominant forwards to get quick PTBs and give him room on the back of D on the back foot…currently the D is on him when he gets the ball

I was in two minds watching benji play. I was glad to see him playing for another side in the same form he left us in ;dropping balls , poor carries, forward pass, over the sidelines. But felt bad to see a player I loved watching be given such a bad advice and play so poorly. Hope he lifts for his own sake but glad he's gone

Hard to argue with that Ink. Benji could have saved himself a lot of headaches over the years if he had a more astute manager.

He is fat and slow these days.

Sure he will bob up and have a couple of good games.

However the Dragons are nuts signing him for 3 seasons.

What players should learn of all this, stay right away from Tauber as your Manager, his advice has cost benji big time instead of getting his client down from the clouds

Saints supporters lament their lack of impact in the forwards which of course directly impacts on benji's game.

Fancy parra dominating a side to the tune of 36-0.

I find the whole benji thing quite sad.

I hope he gets better .

if he doesn't,someone has to tap him on the shoulder.

Unfortunately i agree with eddie. It is sad really and I hope Benji can save face with a few decent performances before pulling the pin.
