Benji Marshall - First tiger to 1000 points in 2012?

Noticed just now that Benji needs 160 points this season to be the first player to score 1000 points for the club.
Last year he scored 201.

We should run a sweepstakes on what round he will get it. I'll say Round 20 this year!

One of Benji's goals this year is to finish the season as highest point scorer. Touchwood he gives himself every chance.

He scored 786.

If you count his points from when he played for Wests in the 90s, it's 933.

Going back to the Balmain and Magpies records:

Only Keith Barnes scored more than 1000 for Balmain with 1519\. Next was Ross Conlon with 756\. Conlon scored a further 148 with the Magpies.

Nobody scored 1000 for the Magpies. The highest was Bill Keato with 776.

Looking at players who have scored more than 1000 for a single club:

Balmain (1): Barnes - 1519
Brisbane (2): Lockyer - 1156; Mick De Vere - 1062
Canberra (2): Dave Furner - 1218; Schifcofske - 1052
Canterbury (4): El Masri - 2418; Halligan - 1490; Lamb - 1279; Gearin - 1006
Cronulla (2): Steve Rogers - 1255; Mat Rogers - 1112
Illawarra (1): Wishart - 1044
Manly (3): Eadie - 1917; Bob Batty - 1150; Ridge - 1093
Melbourne (1) - Cam Smith - 1168
Newcastle (1) - A Johns - 2176
Newtown (1) - Ken Wilson - 1001
Norths (1) - Jason Taylor - 1274
Parra (2) - Cronin - 1971; Burt - 1659
Penrith (2) - Girdler - 1572; G Alexander - 1100
Roosters (1) - Fitzgibbon - 1454
Souths (2) - Simms - 1841; Purcell - 1128
St George (1) - Langlands - 1554

So it is a pretty rare thing to achieve, with only 27 players having do. That is almost as rare as players racking up 300 games. I hope we celebrate the occasion when he gets it!

I wonder what Demps will think when Luke Burt becomes the 5th (?)to score 2000 ( Joey, Taylor, Halligan, El Masri is there anyone else) some time next year

Well 9 more for Benj this weekend gone.

151 to go. I hope he gets it mid season indicating we are scoring many tries and he is slotting a lot of goals. I'll pick round 15.

i believe he will go passed 1000…. hope its the tigers year and we dont get rubbish calls from these bad refs like maxwell...

Those 9 points put him at the top of the point scorers table for the NRL after 1 round…

Have you counted the four goals that the Telegraph credited Benji Marshall as having kicked for Easts on the inside back page this morning…????

Bump…

Marshall is still creeping towards this milestone. I think he is up to 956 now, with 7 regular season games to go. Will he get there this year?

He has scored 116 for the season off 17 games (6.8 per game). This compares with 211 points in 25 games last year (8.4 per game). His goal kicking percentage is up from 72.9% last year to 76.8% but his tries scored is way down. He scored 13 tries last year (his best since scoring 15 tries in 2005) and 33 in 2009-2011 but he has only managed 2 tries so far this year.

If he carries on scoring 6.8 per game, he will be on 1004 by the end of round 26\. But we really need him to find his spark in attack again and rack up a few tries for the team's sake!

I forgot about this thread.

I had him pencilled in for round 15 lol…..hasnt been his best year so far by a long long way. Keep it bumped Juro, he still should get there.

Marshall added another 6 points yesterday, taking him to 956\. He has scored 126 now from 19 games (6.6 per game). If he carries on like this, it will take him another 7 games to reach the milestone. That is, beyond round 26, 2012…
