Benji Marshall V Steve Roach

In 1988 in a game against the Manly Silvertails the Balmain Tigers were set to score the match winning try against Sea Eagles but in backplay Blocker belted a Eagles player and the try was disallowed, this had ramifications later on.
In 2010 in a game against the Roosters the Wests Tigers were set to score a critical try but Benji Marshall traded blows with Junior Junior in backplay which resulted in a disallowed try, hope that this doesn't have the same ramifications, Steve Roach missed the Grand Final on a bogus suspension while Benji looks to have suffered a knee injury :imp:

The only problem with Benji punching Pearce, was that he didn't hit him harder. Roosters where all over the play the ball in the first half and it went largely unpunished by the refs.

we were the only ones penalised for throwing punches.
There were at least 3 other occasions roosters players got away with it.
Hayne even issued a warning saying "the same thing will happen to you"
If thats the case why wasnt it a penalty?

Correct - Benji just hit Mutt-chell a little bit too hard (as it is an Origin star now)!

The Roach incident was rd 20 in 1988 and was Ellery Hanley's debut match for Balmain at Brookvale. Blocker one-punch knocked out Kevin Ward after playing the ball - without any provocation or interference.

A fair try to Clint Robinson was disallowed on the far side of the field (much like tonight)! Tonight however - there was instigation by the defensive player!

Ironically - Balmain lost the 1988 match 8-4 without scoring a try - and in worse news we lost the aforementioned Clint Robinson (who was our top try-scorer and one of the best young wingers in the game) to a ruptured ACL for close to 2 years.

Despite making it back to 1st grade in rd 12 1990 - Clint was never close to to the player he was before injury and only managed 52 games for the Tigers before retiring at the end of 1992.

I desperately hope no such injury issues have come out of last night's game!

Haynes had a shocker, our play the ball speed was reduced to a crawl by their tactics so no wonder frustration creeped into our play. We played probably the best forty minutes of any team this season and haynes kept them in the contest probably fearing a blowout

The refs had a shocker last night…they allowed the Roosters to lay all over us in the tackles....not one penalty!...

sitting on the 50m next to the tiger wags last night which was a nice distraction but got a great view of the gamel….. my opinion is the referees had the worst game ALL season or the police should continue with match fixing investigations into this game because to not blow a penalty for 60 mins is absolutly disgusting!!!!!!!! Especailly the way the rooters slowed the game down, no discipline with the markers and 3 out of 6 tackles every set they were pushing forward before the ball was played.... worst thing I have ever seen!!!
