BENJI WINS FIVE-EIGHTH OF THE YEAR
Wests Tigers
3/11/2011 1:29:17 PM

Wests Tigers five-eighth Benji Marshall was crowned the five-eighth of the year at the RLIF International Awards evening at the Tower of London.

Billy Slater snared the International Player of the Year award but Marshall’s prize as the game’s best five-eighth added to what has already been a successful year for the 26 year old.

Throughout season 2012, Benji passed 150 first grade games for Wests Tigers and broke the Club point scoring record against Penrith in August. He also finished second in this year’s Dally M Medal.

Keith Galloway and Adam Blair were nominated for the category of “International Prop” of the Year however they were both pipped by Matt Scott of the North Queensland Cowboys.

This Saturday Marshall and Blair will take on Wales at Wembley. It will be Blair’s first game back since serving a five week suspension.

Immediately afterwards, the Aussies will be looking for a win over the English which would secure them a place in the final.

The match will pit Galloway up against Gareth Ellis and Chris Heighington who will both be representing England.

Chris Lawrence, who is also a possible starter for the game, recently told Sky Sports News that the he thinks Ellis is one of the best back rowers in the game.

"I know what he can do on attack and defence and his workrate is just outstanding. He has been one of our most consistent players the last three years so it will be a big challenge coming up against him,” he said.

Well done Benji. Great season and a great foundation for what is hopefully going to be a great year for the Wests Tigers in 2012\. *cough cough* a premiership! *cough cough*

Also, I believe he broke the club point scoring record against the Eels in round 24\. I remember him crossing for a trademark "Benji Marshall" try and the notice on the big screen as it was awarded.
