The Coal & Allied Newcastle Knights today confirmed the signing of St George Illawarra fullback Darius Boyd from the 2012 NRL season.

The new agreement with the Knights will once again link the two time premiership winner and Clive Churchill Medallist to play under Coach Wayne Bennett for the next four years.

Hunter Sports Group CEO Troy Palmer is confident the signing of Boyd will give the entire club as well as members and fans a great lift.

"The signing of a current international and premiership winning player clearly highlights the enthusiasm of NRL players wanting to join the club and be part of our exciting future.

"It is very important that we don't get in front of ourselves and continue to concentrate on our current job of a top 8 semi-final position this year.

"The job that Rick Stone and the playing group have been doing each week has given fans the feeling that even better things are to come this year and that they are continuing to lay down a great platform for the future." He concluded.

The signing of Boyd, together with the return of fellow internationals Kade Snowden and Timana Tahu, the recent resigning of Captain Kurt Gidley and Kiwi International Junior Sau, the exciting young talent coming through the Newcastle Knights Junior ranks and the on-going resigning of many of the current squad, ensures a bright future for the Newcastle Knights club.

Its got nothing to do with the club, its all about Benny!

money talks BS walks thats what its about.

To me i think its pretty pathetic boyd following bennett around like a little lost puppy.

Knowing about Darius' upbringing (both his parents died when he was still fairly young, and he lived with his grandmother for his teenage years), I think he sees Wayne as a father figure. That said, a very good signing for the Knights, they're starting to look like a strong line up for next season, probably 1-2 big guns short of being a top 4 side.

Marshall would do exactly the same thing with Sheens. We seen the way he carried on earlier this yr when Sheens almost walked out the door

Gidley has always said his preferd position is fullback… how does that work out?

Either
1\. Boyd
6\. Gidley
7\. Mullen
9\. Hilder
Beau Henry gets the flick

or
1\. Boyd
6\. Henry
7\. Mullen
9\. Gidley
14\. Hilder

Assuming the rumors re: De Gois>Cronulla are true.

That works. I always believed that Gidley worked best at Hooker. Four genuinely dangerous attacking players. Boyd makes their spine look so much stronger.

no but he has had get out cluases in previous contracts should Sheens leave, something Boyd has never had with Bennett

hasn't it?

1.Marshall has had clauses in the past installed into contracts stating he can leave should Sheens leave.Doesn't matter if he doesn't have 1 in his current deal, its a known fact he had those clauses in previous contracts

2.The way he carried on when Sheens was considering going to the Panthers was nothing short of embarrassing.saying things like he was 'physically sick' at the prospect of Sheens leaving. No chance that he'd ever want to get out of his comfort zone and be mentored by a different coach.I feel sorry for the next tigers coach coz Marshall will act like a spoilt brat if he doesn't get his own way. He's bad enough now

so why are the cases of Benji and Boyd different in some ppl's eyes? simple.Benji is a tiger, and its different when its a tigers player.Boyd has the same relationship with Bennett that Marshall has with Sheens. Its forgotten that Boyd lost his parents at an early age and see's Bennett as the closest thing he's ever had to a father. No he just gets laughed at and gets labelled a 'sook' and a 'lost puppy'

no1 says anything about Benji coz he's a tiger, and tigers players are a protected species in some ppl's eyes

Happy tiger lol

gnr 4life it has nothing to do with benji been a tiger your rant is purely just speculation…..it never happen benji signs a long term deal and had said if sheens leaves he would stay a tiger where boyd sign a 2 year contract with st ill and never commited to the club any further purely because bennett hadnt.

Anyway its the only time ever i have seen this happen in all the years ive followed football.Dont take my comments personally.I bet every dragons fan would agree and the broncos.

John Lang with his son Martin and Preston Campbell? Martin was coached by his father his whole career, and Preston followed Lang from Cronulla to Penriff.

Preston only went to Penrith coz he was forced out of the Sharks.Coincidently by another coach and player attached at the hip, probably the duo who every player and coach should be measured by these dayz.Anderson/Kimmorley

As gnr4life said sharks didnt want preston but preston didnt go to souths though did he… and he also didnt come and go the same years as each other.

Kimmorley played for 6 clubs 2 were coached by anderson and he did get punted .....kimmorley remained at the sharks while anderson went to easts so its no where near the same.

Just find it strange thats all. 3 CLUBS.... anyway on a positive i wouldnt be suprised to see the dragons next year drop right off the pace.

@you know who said:
Henry was told he wasnt wanted by Wayne next year thats why i think you would find the reason he left the Dragons

Yawn.
He was told he can look around & if he finds a better deal, he should take it.
Bennet rates him a lot and will want him @ the knights in 2012 and beyond.
