Canterbury's NRL utility Jacob Loko has been arrested and charged for high-range drink driving.

In a written statement issued by the Bulldogs, the club confirmed Loko was arrested early on Friday in Manly after recording a blood alcohol level almost four times over the legal limit.

Police said they stopped a black Nissan Murano on Whistler Street, Manly after it was seen travelling without any headlights on and the driver - a 22-year-old man from Belmore - was charged with high range drink driving after returning a blood alcohol reading of 0.189\. He was scheduled to appear in Manly Local Court on February 26.

"The club finds Loko's actions unacceptable and the incident will be dealt with under the player Code of Conduct and the punishment applied will be completed in consultation with the NRL Integrity Unit," said the Bulldogs' statement.

An outside back who can play either fullback, wing or centre, Loko joined Canterbury from Parramatta in July last year but is yet to play for the Bulldogs after battling a knee injury for much of 2014\. He played 23 NRL games in four seasons for the Eels.

he's not the only one. double demerit till Sunday

That's making light of it. I don't think that there were too many driving with a blood alcohol reading FOUR times over the legal limit. Double demerit points are nowhere near a penalty for such an offence, promising rugby league player or not. Ask Carney.

i don't think light of it all mate - I don't drink and drive - how thick to you have to be?

My apologies AHX, I am sure that you were not thinking light of it. With regards to your question as to how thick do you have to be to drive with an extremely high level of alcohol I am sure that players such as Loko and Carney would be well short of the minimum mensa IQ requirement.

What a fool…drink driving would be up there with the dumbest things to do

Lots of stupid people around, more than 200 of them took drugs to a concert in the Domain yesterday, where it was common knowledge lots of cops with sniffer dogs would be in attendance

Will any of these high paid players that are looked up to by the children as football heros ever learn…...

Obviously they don't care and the sooner the NRL admin make it harder to expand or renew a contract for offenders, then the better our game will be...

Give them heaps of money and time on their hands..this is the end result for some...

If you go out and drink you need a plan B...DONT DRINK AND DRIVE.......not hard to understand.... :brick: :brick:

Ive been saying this for years but CEO's should make a percentage of their pay a taxi card, put a few grand in it…..no excuses then.
