Centres

If you take out the token centres at SOO and Australia level Inglis and Dugan and then remove Jamie Lyon as his at the end of his career there isn't many real good centres running around

Who would you rate as the next 5 best centres in the NRL after the above mentioned 3 ??

I reckon centre wise , this is the lowest standard that I can remember at this level since I have been following Rugby League for basically 40 years now

This is why I can't understand Souths wanting to let Walker go. There's so little in the way of top shelf centre talent.

JMo, Lafai, jennings, fergo, crocker, reed, matai, whare, J robers, chambers, hoppa, gagai all top shelf rep centres

nah….

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^No longer a centre….

Speaking of Centres....

The career of Dragons centre Dylan Farrell is in doubt due to a chronic back injury.

Sources close to Farrell have told RLW the star centre’s injury has not improved over the summer break and he can barely train with his team-mates.

Farrell is having further medical tests but retirement looms as a real option unless his back improves.

The former Souths centre is only 24 years old but clearly struggled in 2015.

He played just 14 games for the Dragons, failing to score a single try and played a mere six games in 2014.......

Alot of the best blokes who used to be centres a few decades or so ago now play junior footy as fullbacks (the best running, evasive backs now all play fullback) many end up back in the centres but the cream of the cream coming through are generally wearing the number 1 jersey.

This never used to be the case, both Gasniers, Renouf, Michael O'Conner and ET would probably have been fullbacks in teh modern game. A guy like Mal would probably be a damaging edge forward.

At a junior rep carnival they usually pick 4 fullbacks in the next level team, moving a couple to the wings and centres!

I am sure Taylor will get him to the tigers for Farah, probably why his deal at another club fell through last week.

Take Jack Reed in a heart beat Sabre

Massively overrated.

x100

One of the best defensive centres in the comp

We haven't had a decent defensive centre for a long time , if ever

Whatuira was pretty good , not in Reed's class

Don't worry Milky , one day you'll understand there is two parts to this game

If we could close down one side of our defence we might actually have a chance of succeeding at some stage

Not much good being a good defensive centre though if you can't properly do your primary job of getting your winger quality ball, and taking good runs yourself. Our current centres' defence isn't really that much concern anyway.

You need to watch more Broncos games Sabre , maybe look at his highlights package ??

I agree with Happy...Would have Reed in our centres...

The next best in my view is Josh Morris, Dean Whare, James Roberts, Will Chambers and Jack Reed. All are consistent both in attack and defence. Ferguson, Jennings, Hurrell, Hopoate, Gagai and Walker are all guns on their day but have more average days than great ones.
Unfortunately we have the weakest centre combination in the comp but i think this is a by product of ours forwards not going forward and bending the line with the first few runs.

lol… We dont have any so I'm hoping Seve or Heleta make the transition in the next 12-18 months.

I'd say Jennings is the best Centre running around today. He made Hodges look poor a couple of times in SOO this year, and that isnt easy to do considering he has always been a solid defender.

The game has changed alot in the past 3 years. Centre is one of the hardest positions on the paddock these days finding the balance between defence and attack isnt as simple as you think.

If I had to name a Top 5, it would be in this order:

Jennings
Ferguson
Chambers
Walker
Morris

Out of that 5, 2 are probably better known as defensive centres while the other 3 can tear apart most teams on there day.

Who knows Tim Sim might have a break-out year in 2016? 😛ray:

Roberts is the centre with the most improvement in him. Blistering pace and improved defence on the right hand side of the field. A NSW and Kangaroo prospect if he continues to improve.

Simona is the best try assist centre in the game….
