CEO Q &A

Just finished reading all of the Q & A on the main web site… I must say it is refreshing that the CEO would answer questions from the fans. Did get some info and some in site .
I think Mr Mayer is doing pretty well all considering ,the next step to get the board up and running there also seems to be some honesty re the membership stuff ups etc with promises to rectify the problems. There will be supporters that will just rubbish this type of interaction with the fans but I thought it was Ok ..looking forward to the next instalment .

I was reading an open letter from a Sharks fan to Steve Noyce after they played Souths the other night and he specifically singled out Mayer and the way he connects with the supporters via social media and asked why Noyce wasn't like that.

from that i really get the feeling that we're struggling financially BIGGG TIMEE

obviously, it's not a hidden fact but there may be more to teddy not re-signing, potter still not being signed and the sheens payout thing.

If we can figure out how to market specifically to maximise crowds at both Leichhardt and Campo, the profits would make the $100k per from ANZ look like chump change. Fans are fickle, a winning team fills the bandwagon… It looks like we have a turned a corner on the paddock, and smart business to assess the grounds situation after giving it a dilligent go.

I like the fact that the CEO has answered questions from the fans, one of the most puzzling answers was our two marquee players were playing State of Origin. Does any other NRL club have a prop as a marquee player? I love Woods but whilst prop is important it is not as important in the modern game as the spine positions.

Would you consider Gallen marquee? Fifita? Props are a very important part of the team and I'd much rather have a player of Woodsy's capability leading our pack then some other nuffies out there.

Give Brooks a few years, and he'll be marquee

I agree with this and I hope we aren't paying too much for his services.

Never said they weren't important just didn't think other clubs had them as marquee players.
Gallen is not really a prop and the sharks are a poor example, how many comps do they win. I don't see clubs like the storm, eagles or roosters having a prop as a marquee, not saying they don't have good enough props but they spend the big money in other positions.

Firstly; I'm really pleased that Mayer is doing this. He is making himself directly accountable to us as major stakeholders. A smart and courageous move and a true sign of a good leader.

Secondly; Like tig-prmz, I'm concerned about our financial situation.

Thirdly; What's wrong with Woodsy as a Marquee player? He's clearly showing leadership and is one of the reasons were moving forward this season.

Id say the current ladder leaders have a prop as marquee - James Graham. Souths who have also been at the top the last few years would count as well with Sam Burgess. I'd put Jared Waerea-Hargreaves in the marquee basket too. There are a few out there.

But as was also mentioned - Woodsy has really stepped it up lately in the leadership department

No reason that a forward can't be a marquee player. As long as he is good enough, that fits the bill. Look at someone like Artie Beetson. Would you have considered him to be a marquee player?

Woods is also very good with the media, and loved by the fans.

Pleased to see the club has ruled out moving to ANZ on a full time basis.

Funny that was the only disappointing part of it for me

Me too Boonboon, does not make any sense at all.

I just cant work it out either. He says we cant continue to do $10 games, but you can get 8 games at Homebush for $50 which is only $6.25 per game. Its madness. Better facilities, more money for the club and cheaper for the fan. When do the NRL take over? Has that happened yet?

Shifting a couple to me will certainly make sense. But I would keep a few at the suburban grounds. 2 or 3 each ground would be ideal.

Leading into that, I'm really not sure why we don't set up our HQ out there. Maybe it has something about being close to Ashfield, but it would certainly fix the issue with having world class training facilities. Surely the team would love it and it's convenient for both supporter bases. Maybe the main ground can't be used as a training paddock..which would make sense but there is space for the govt to create one though.

The NRL hasn't taken over yet, Mayer said it was within weeks, not months.

I didn't think he was all that strong in his praise of Mick Potter though….? Am, I reading too much into it?
