I think the Commonwealth Games start next month in India. There's a bit of a stink about the Australian Games uniforms.

Australian gold made way for tangerine orange as the formal team uniform for next month's Commonwealth Games was unveiled in Melbourne on Friday.

But there was also something for the traditionalists, with the competition uniforms still very much the conventional green and gold.

Men's 400m runner Sean Wroe cut some Zoolander moves on the catwalk as he modelled the men's uniform, designed by Australian corporate wardrobe supplier, Table Eight Corporate, who also designed outfits for the past two Commonwealth Games.

Wroe donned a grey corded cotton suit over the orange shirt, with a silver tie and grey slip-on shoes sans socks.

Olympic swimming champion Leisel Jones showcased the women's outfit, which featured a jade green shirt, covered by a three-quarter sleeved grey jacket with a tied waist, and matching wrap-around skirt, which was her favourite item.

While some may be dismayed by the introduction of colours such as orange, and pink and blue which have been used in the casual uniform range, the athletes seemed happy with the spectrum.

"The colours are very bright ... it's very hard to work with green and gold to make it look really good but this is actually a really good shade of green," Jones said.

"I think it's going to be pretty flattering and I think the boys are going to be pretty happy with orange, I think it's a bit different."

Jones said the fabric was light and cool, which would be ideal for the expected hot conditions in Delhi.

Wroe, who is aiming to defend Australia's gold medal in the 400m relay, gave the suit the thumbs up.

"I really like it, it's really light which was the first thing I noticed, which I think will be great for Delhi.

"I was a little bit surprised by the colour of the shirt and some people may not be able to pull it off but it should be a bit of fun."

I think the uniforms are the least of the problems. I'd say the incomplete venues and general lack of interest is the more pressing concern at this stage. Still I'll probably flick over at some stage - nothing makes you feel more proud as an Aussie than pounding the Isle of Man's triples bowls team…

One thing is guaranteed every time an Australian team heads off to an Olympics or Commonwealth Games… you'll get the articles coming out saying our uniforms are hidious.

Waste of time and Tax payer money.

I hate the Comm and Oly games

There is only one sport and One Team to follow on earth.

anyone been watching this?

i like watching the table tennis

I didn't even know it had started until yesterday at lunch time when I awoke from my nap to the replay of the Opening Ceremony

By the sounds of it, the stinkiest thing in India will be the Aussies bathrooms after they've eaten some of the local cuisine.

Totally agree. Throw in Badminton, ping pong, and a tennis tournament Peter Luczak is a chance of winning and you've got yourself a games!!

Besides it's a fantastic chance for us to feel better about ourselves as a nation, especially if we can beat England.

why did they even have the games in india??? the stadiums and arenas are empty because people there cant afford tickets or dont care.

i hear our liam fulton is going over there though so we might see him.
