Just found this article and I’m not impressed at all, your thoughts would be appreciated!!!

Problem for me is it's a stretch for me to get to Campbelltown so i won't be able to get to as many games as i would like. Plus Campbelltown would never replace a packed Liechhardt imo.

*sigh* why is it only one side of the venture that never can move on? If cambo gets the crowds for those 3 games, then their population growth argument starts to hold water. Until then, just put a sock in it.

this probably needs to be attached to that roar story I quoted a few days ago Mods

Same thing as brought up in that story

I think our future would be strongest when we can have a heap of games at Campbo. But first, they would need to get massive crowds.

And only a small portion of that side, the owners don't even want the magpies back.

You should have read the thread about Wests taking full ownership. The paranoia that they would bring the Magpies back was palpable.

I find people like this hypercritical, they want their team back by taking away the team of 1000's of others. This guy even argued about leaving tbe Wests Tigers in and the Macarther Magpies taking Cronulla's spot.

Didn't Balmain actually save the magpies back in 1999

I'm sure Balmain made the cut to stay in the NRL as a stand alone club but chose to merge to be a part of a much stronger organization

Wests Magpies would've been cut and probably lost forever similar to the bears

We now have a merged club with a massive following thats in its 20th year and now a group of people want to have tgat team finished and break the hearts of probably hundreds of thousands of supporters and risk losing a massive amount of supporters and juniors and sponsors to other codes?

Sad thing is the NRL will probably support these people in the hope that it leads to the club disappearing altogether thus allowing the NRL to start a new club in Perth without adding another team to the competition

As a local I think that this group is living in fantasy land. A few people with grand ideas is not going to create a football club.

Wests Tigers are owned by Wests Ashfield. There is no involvement from the Campbelltown leagues club, the council or anyone else in the MacArthur area. It is basically the Ashfield clubs choice to play however many games wherever they choose.

Would need to find some prominent backers to get a proposal up and running.

@tiger05premier I am not sure that was the case. Balmain and Wests were always targeted to merge. It was just not meant to be with each other it was supposed to be with Parramatta (Balmain) & Canterbury (Wests), which would have basically been takeovers.

It was a marriage of convenience. In saying that, I think that Balmain covered some of the financial load early in the merger after the joint venture had managed to blow the $8m grant they got for merging.

These guys, especially Paul Taylor (it would seem), need to try and drag themselves into the 21st. century.

Western Suburbs Magpies and Balmain Tigers are a thing of the past - it ended years ago. These guys and thousands of others had the chance to make Western Suburbs a viable proposition before the merger - they did not support the club, neither did the Balmain Tigers fans support them enough. Hence the merger.

Let's not worry about that though - lets disband a viable club like the Wests Tigers, that is now profitable, has a huge membership, won a premiership and thousands of supporters that supported no other club (take the club off them).

You guys aren't Fibros that is for sure - Dinosaurs maybe.

Paul Taylor, you and your cronies should go and "Bag your heads".

Not disputing your underlying theme but it is correct that Balmain were above the line for cutting the teams. From memory 12th or 13th and above Penrith, Souths, Norths, Wests and maybe others. Though how a standalone Balmain would have limped on is the question. I'd say it would have been privatisation pretty quick.

Im not from Cambo or Balmain.

All I know is we need a geographic identity of sorts. This is the thing I am most envious of the Panthers.

Love or hate Penrith, They have owned it and the community has responded.

In a perfect world we would have a Significant stadium upgrade at Campbeltown, a center of excellence and we need to ensure that We stay the Tigers.

Two things that get fans.

1 Winning and the 2nd Geography
