Conversion Try Option

I doubt theyll bring it into the NRL but I thought it was a good rule to have in an exhibition game such as the All Stars match. Made it more exciting for the crowd and mixes thing up a bit. I didnt mind it.

i thought it made a joke out of what was supossed to be a serious match. An embarassment to the game and the person who thought it up should be stood down immediantly pending a urine test for drugs!

thought it was a good idea, why not use it again in a game like city - v- country. :wahoo:
not to be used in a series, like state of origin, or throughout the nrl season, where 2 competition points are on offer. :imp:

What bugs me is players scoring from dummy half. please change this rule,, dummy half HAS to pass the ball.

I agree. The all star team were taking the piss a bit.especially when Cam Smith threw a gridiron pass
& that wall thing they were trying was a bit embarassing

Disagree Tomcat. Robbie is a master of the "Dummy and Dive"…

IMO it was worth a try but now thats it been done and was an obvious flop the rule should be changed and not be used again in any type of match. I was also quite annoyed when the NRL All Stars were throwing the ball around and basically not even trying to score when they elected to go for the 4 points. Especially after the indigenous were bringing so much passion to the match.

it has good merit, but it needs tweeking 2 things i thought of are

1) you should be allowed to kick it

2) make it 7 on 7 for the try conversion, opens the field up and makes it more viable that it wil be scored off

cheap tries , no class needed. should only be worth 2 points.

if you couldnt score from dummy half the defence would be able to push wider faster and this would stop a lot of tries out wide as well…..so unless you want that, you need dummy half try to be an option.

at the moment the're not allowed to kick which makes it almost impossible to spread the defence but if they change this is may be better as the defencive line will have to spread out and not just bunch around the first 3 player sinthe line

totally agree with this Ron. should be allowed to kick it and 7 against 7 for the try conversion.

Thought it was worth a try in an exhibition game. It didn't work, move on to something different. Some of the best rules in the game were radical ideas at the time. Limited tackles, 13 on the field, 1 point field goals etc etc etc.

Pretty dumb idea to be honest….however the allstars tactics whilst using it were terrible. You would get burgess on the wing and a couple of face passes would see him steam rolling the indigenous sides skinny little wingers and fullback for the try.

Its funny, I was looking forward to seeing how it would work and was all for trialling it but now I hate it. It was an utter failure imo, some of the plays just looked embarressing.

I'm sure it would improve but the defence is just too good these days to make it worth going for unless you were trailing by 4pts with 1 min to go or something…

Scrap it imo.

I think the fact you can't kick makes it MUCH easier for the defence to read. Maybe if they allowed kicking it would be interesting.
