Cricket Season Thread

Big day for Pommy cricket:

ROOOOOOOOOOOOT!
Nobody has ever scored more Test match runs for England than Joe Root.
He is now the leading Test run scorer for his country - overtaking Sir Alastair Cook.
12,473 runs - and counting!

What do they say?
“You can beat an egg, but you can’t beat a ???? “

Pakistan sure know how to produce the world's most lifeless pitches
Pakistan get 552 then England 3-659
Joe Root his highest test score
Harry Brook his highest test score
Partnership so far 409
Do they realise you don't win tests on first innings
Joe is now England's highest ever run scorer
Why bat on !
Individual glory !

We seem to have a new star opener
Sam Konstas for NSW 152 in 1st innings backs up with a ton in 2nd innings
Might solve our problem of who to partner Kwajaja at top of order
Its not ideal to move our other stars around
Can keep Marnus ,Smith , Head ,Marsh ,Carey in usual positions
Note Vic opener Marcus Harris also got a ton but I'm not big on picking guys who have been picked and dropped on multiple occasions in the past
Smith is the one lacking form lately but Inglis is In top form
Green with bad back is not preferred imo

To win a test you gotta take 20 wickets Steve. 🤷‍♂️
Some teams are just happy not to lose, no killer instinct. The Pakis have been guilty of that and doctoring pitches forever.

The 3 Sheild games this week spell good news for us
Our team regulars who have done well with bat
Labuschagne ,Marsh , Carey Inglis
Those knocking on the door
Konstas ,Harris ,
Bowlers who have done well
Neser , Lyon ,
Our big 3 quicks not playing which I don't understand
Lyon doing really well is great news
Selectors having to choose either Carey or Inglis is a tough one both on fire with the bat
Only fails Kwajaja just a 30 something so far and Head a 30 and a 10
Got no idea what Smith is doing ? Not been in great form and think he needs a red ball knock

My team for 1st test Nov 22nd Perth
1.Kwajaja
2. Konstas
3.Labuschagne
4.Smith
5.Head
6.Marsh
7.Carey
8.Starc
9.Cummings
10. Lyon
11.Hazelwood
12.Neser

As much as I’d like it Steve, but even if Konstas keeps scoring I don’t reckon he’ll get picked for that test. But Green could be out for the season and the run smith needs runs at the top asap, so he could get a run at some stage over the summer. He will have leap frogged a few if he does.

Anyone who can average at 50 for over one hundred tests and always having to play against better teams is pretty good going.
That being said, I hope he gets out first ball tomorrow.
For me, there is one big question mark over Roots' ability with the bat. And that is, he has failed in Australia.

Root is regarded by many (Poms) as a modern day "great". But if he is a "great", I want him to prove that to me in Australia. After all, we are the greatest test playing nation. For me, scoring mountains of runs on the dead earth of Pakistan is not enough. He needs to prove it against the premier test playing nation in the world on their home soil.

Sadly for Root, he has toured here 3 times and never scored a test century and his average after 14 tests in Oz is 35.7, which is poor for a "great" player. Moreover, England were flogged unmercifully in those three tours. He had no influence on the outcome of each series.

I assume he will tour here in 25/26 which will be his last chance to stake a claim to greatness. Until then the jury is out.

Yep, fair comments but I reckon the jury is in, and even if he scores hundreds and they win the series, we will all know he took 15yrs to get it right. Unlikely anyway, I bet he won’t score a single ton.
But still as I said “Anyone who can average at 50 for over one hundred tests and always having to play against better teams is pretty good going.”
Not a legend or greatness amongst our ranks, but still “pretty good going”.
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’d be happy batting half a root.
I had to get a little root pun in there, no one likes half a root.
