Defence

IN my opinion, our biggest problem today (and I may be stating the obvious here) was our defence. Twenty four points is more than enough to win a game of football. Evidently we can score points pretty well.

Despite the wanky articles extolling the virtues of Kidwell and talking up how hard our D-line was going to be, all we got was a carbon copy of last years defence, which so resembled Swiss cheese, James Reason would've been proud of it.

If the tigers are to climb the ladder at all this year, our coaches need to start turning our players into a unit that thinks with one mind. The line at times today reminded me of Bart Simpson's hair cut. This needs to be fixed. Once it is, and our players know that they can hold oppositions to a minimum of points, I think we will see a side confident in their own skin and ble to rack up some big scores.

Besides, it's only round one…

Yeah, its obvious because thats been the number 1 problem for the last 2 seasons and a major one before that.
Blair, another poor/average game,Anasta, reads the game well but too slow to do anything about it..etc etc.
After saying that we showed some glimpses in attack and i think the Saints Forwards are in for a big season if they stay healthy so the next few games will be interesting to see if we can miss the spoon.

I found it odd as people who attended the trials said our defence looked much better than last year. Yet here we were at round 1 and it was try time every time saints got within our 20\. It was a major let down especially when you consider we were hardly playing the most attacking team in the NRL.

The problem was we missed to many tackles and when we did miss we only jogged back into place.

Where was Blair ???? All the talk about him getting the mongrel back, Patterson was poor and his passing (not alone) was very poor with many passes hitting the turf.

Round 2 is very important to see if we can bounce back or the year will head down the same path as 2013.

We are the same differential as last years premiers!

No no, the problem is,

Instead of recruiting guys who are solid hard hitters in defence, eg. Nigel Plum.

We recruit forwards who try create something out of nothing infront of the try line, they attempt this three times and nither was a sucess. Eg. Corey Paterson

Saints looked like a team of Incredible Hulks against us, breaking through tackles and forcing quality offloads, Tigers players hanging vainly onto jerseys like fleas on a dog.

Defence is attitude.

Attitude is the problem not the defensive structure.

A huge concern, given they played a very light pack today.

Gavet and Brooks in particular were bouncing off in defence in the second half. It was half-assed stuff

fatiguing was a bigger issue than heavy or light today imo. We contained them fine for 20-30minutes. Size not an issue. But as they got more possession we got more tired, and started missing tackles, making errors etc. etc.

Adam Blair, Farah and Woods were very ordinary in the forwards today…Those 3 account for upwards of $2m of our salary cap...not good enough lads....

Blair has to be on notice....put Sue in his place and play Blair off the bench.

Attitude is definitely a problem. No one really seemed willing to chase for the tackle. But as far as structure, well, I didn't really see any there todayp

That Frizzel try was the worst example, players turning their backs whilst Merrin offloaded and Tapau makes the cover tackle. Tapau then has to break from marker and make another diving cover attempt, wondering where the other 12 players are.
