I don't get why players are awarded life membership whilst still playing. Why the rush?

Yeah, it seems like an award for after retirement. But anyway, much deserved. Well done to them both.

I can see the uproar already when Rowdy gets dropped. He's not that good now on a consistent basis. More fuel for those that love particular players over what the coach might seem necessary for the benefit of the team. There's absolutely no need for awards of that nature whilst the player is still contracted.

Agree wd,
They should be given a 7 or 10 year pin like the ones we members receive, then after they retire they can get the life memberships.
As you said, how do you drop a life member back to reserve grade. Just won't happen !

Poor old Rowdy has been given the poisoned chalice.
Look what happened to the only other guys who were still playing when they were 'honoured'.

That's a good result, both players deserve it…

Can anyone remember why Halatau left the Tigers the first time?

Sheens didn't want him essentially. He was effectively replaced by the Pommy Mark Flanagan at a quarter of the price, and considering the results in 2010/2011 I'd say it was the right move at the time.

I don't think it's the right move to have current players given a 'life membership' style award, or even players retiring/leaving. As members of WM & BT would know, these are extremely prestigious awards which are bestowed on people who have served the club for 15+ years in various roles & are mostly done after the person has finished their service. Lawrence could conceivably play for another 3-4 years, which makes such an award seem a bit silly.

Yeah I remember. He was playing like a reserve grader.
Bulldogs resurrected him.

I have great regard for his achievements over the years but Rowdy needs to be bench player at most if we are to succeed in 2017.

The problem of course being who you replace him with… Nobody in the club at present is knocking down the door

My Doggies loving brother in law thought he was stealing one off me when they signed Dene, but I wasn't at all worried. He can't have been setting the world on fire at the time.

MM player of the year? He had some very good moments but my god he had poor ones as well - sometimes in the same game. He really needs some consistency in his game to be player of the year surely?

I think that they both deserve to be life members, but I don't like the idea of giving players life memberships while they are still playing.
I think that we could be in the same situation a few years down the track, trying to move a life member on while he is still under contract.
Rowdy is a great player and clubman, but 3 more years I think will be a problem, another RF mess coming.

Moses had a scintillating year???
Lol these guys will have a heart attack if he actually ever plays a consistently good year.
7/10 at a stretch

Can't see where he'd beat Tedesco in any player of the year voting
Chalk and Cheese
Teddy not only scores tries, he stops them as well

Some clubs give their awards to just 1 person, while other try to give confidence to multiple players for the next season.
