Dragons chasing Nathan Brown

No… Not the coach... Our reserve grade forward

"Desperate for more fire power up front, the St George Illawarra Dragons are chasing rookie Wests Tigers prop Nathan Brown before the June 30 transfer deadline.

The 21-year-old made his debut last season - ironically against the Dragons - and is currently running around for the Tigers in the NSW Cup.

A tough forward with a 110kg frame, Brown would add some size to the Dragons pack.

The Rabbitohs - specifically the Burgess brothers - rode all over the Dragons on Monday night in another worrying defeat for the club - the first under interim coach Paul McGregor."

It's their fault for leaving Jack de Belin out of the game. He is one of their best forwards. Seems they had high hopes for Matt Groat too who hasn't made it out of the Illawarra Cutters side all year too

Brown doesn't impress me that much, sure he has mongrel but not much else.

Yep, Lodge looks a better prospect at the moment. For once we are pretty flush with forwards depth. Woods and KG are signed up long term, Taupau and Sue to end of 2016, Gavet next year, hanging on to Ava and Lodge past this year would complete the puzzle.

I would be ringing a St George cab quickly if this is the case , will struggle to make the grade from what I have seen this year good option for both parties IMO .

I was excited that we bought Lodge, not for the player himself but for the parinig he could have with Brown. These are two rough nuts with power and aggression who could really damage opposing packs once they are ready for grade.

Brown is worth holding onto in my opinion. If players were the complete package as soon as you get them then why do we need coaches and trainers?

Makes sense, if we are paying Brown to be a part of our top squad but have him stuck behind a bunch of in form forwards, if might be in his and our interests to let him seek a first grade spot elsewhere.

However I won't be complaining if we hold on to him, I think he will be a good quality prop.

Agreed with most here that I would like to keep Brown and see him develop…

But if they are gona offer good money to get him, and are offering NRL Game Time, its a tough choice for the Tigers to make.

Hopefully this is simply a feeler and nothing more!

Getting the feeling of deja vu. Pretty sure I saw multiple people write the same thing about Brenden Santi last year haha

I havent got a wrap on Brown, solid back up, Saints need forwards, let him go andI hope he makes a fist of it and this is the lucky break he needs.
He may go onto to play alot of first grade but I have no fears of thinking down the track that he is the one that got away.

It's doubtful Brown would be on a NRL contract. There were plenty of props ahead of him in the roster. Possible he's on NSW Cup contract for this season (and possibly next) with bonuses or upgrades to be triggered by playing NRL.

He'd be a cheap local prop, who is learning his craft and should stay for another year or two at least!

I am deadest against helping out other sides with mid season transfers due to their poor player management. I can see us losing KG and either Gavet or Tapau over the next few years. We don't have much in the way of props coming through the NYC at the moment. I'd hold on to him.

He is a very strong defender but you have to ask yourself how many players are in front of him. I suppose the trick is keeping him interested as he will probably not come into the frame for a regular NRL berth for at least two years or more and that is a eternity in football and anything can happen

In letting players go, we also help ourselves by freeing up space in whatever cap the player was in, letting us recruit better for positions we are struggling with.

I doubt most teams would let people go if the benefit was 100% towards the receiving club.

Do th dragons know that Anasta has starred in the forwards for us in th past. We could even help with paying th contract !!

Other forwards are in front of him because he is not ready just yet.

You don't go and sell your shares because they are not worth enough at the moment, so why do the same with an up and coming player. Particulalry in a position where we are historically light on for depth.

Besides, why are St George desperate for forwards. Between themselves and the Raiders they have the best junior nursery for props in the country. If they can't develop their own with such a good nursery then why should we give them a hand??

They let a kid go from their 20's, Kem Seru, was a massive fijjian and has potential. He has gone too roosters now.

For Brown, no way I would let him go..out of all our junior props he has the most potential. Once Anasta is dropped our bench must consist of Taupau, Gavet, Brown & Akoula. Ava & Sue are way too over rated.
