Wests Tigers backrower Gareth Ellis has been charged with tripping but is still free to play in Sunday's clash with Sydney Roosters.

Ellis caught Matt Orford with his foot in a clumsy attempt to tackle the Manly captain at the Sydney Football Stadium on Monday night, and was duly charged with grade one tripping.

The offence carries only a 90-point penalty, while an early guilty plea would reduce that to 67 points.

Ellis as until midday on Wednesday to enter a plea.

The three players charged on Monday - St George Illawarra's Jamie Soward, South Sydney's Chris Sandow and Brisbane Broncos' Dave Taylor - all entered early guilty pleas and are clear to play this weekend.

He should just take the early guilty plea… because he did catch him with the leg first...

Because the charge only carries 90 points if he were to challenge and lose he'd still be free to play wouldnt he ?

The main thing is that he will line up against the Roosters on Sunday and hopefully take down Mason again.

Excellent to hear he is free to play against the roosters and smash mason for the second time this year.
