Who is your favorite game caller and commentator?
Peter Wilkins from ABC is my choice with David Morrow close second
Warren Ryan is without peer with analyzing the game

I couldnt fault any off those macman… Footy on Grandstand is a far better call than 2GB, Fox or Nine!

Wouldnt it be great if the ABC was granted 2 games every week...

The Wok has just about the sharpest football brain of anyone whose involed in the game, but he's about as exciting as dry toast

The only problem i have with Grandstand is that Morrow and Ryan talk over the play too much. They never mention the players running on the field, they just talk and all of a sudden dive into the commentary mid-sentence. Also its frustrating that the Wok takes an entire set of six to give his analysis. Bit hard to know whats going on when you listen on radio and they talk over the play. I'd still take them over that butterball Andrew Moore any day of the week though

Have to agree with both these posts… But just because he doesn't get the heart racing with his commentary, I still find it great when the Wok unleashes his wisdom. There wouldn't be many better.

I personally like Wazza Smith though.

I love Ray Warren, I was surprised to hear so many people on the forum don't rate him. To me the game isn't the same without Rabs behind the microphone.
As for Fox my favourites Mark Braybrook, can't penalize him for being paired with Belcher though.
As for radio I like 2GBs commentary and the continuous call team as opposed to the grandstand team.

I think it was Yoss a while ago who said he enjoyed Andrew Voss' commentary for the simple fact that he's just a league tragic and loves the game. I think I was blinded to that by my dislike for him after the way he carries on on the Sunday roast and footy
Show. I rewatched the Tigers Dragons clash from round 22 and quite enjoyed his call.

Great thread, it's nice to hear other people's opinions and thoughts on commentary.

NONE , I WATCH EVERY GAME LIVE AND FORM MY OWN OPINIONS .
RAY WARREN CALLS EVERY GAME LIKE ITS THERE FIRST GAME OF FOOTBALL AND THAT IS SO ANNOYING .

ABC win hands down. I hate the boofheads on 2GB. I can't stand their banter and lockeroom type humour, just get on with calling the game and talking footy!

In terms of TV commentary I always enjoyed Rex Mossop's calls. Nowadays I listen to 2GB only because Hadley keeps up with the play but I don't listen to the garbage they go on with before and after the game. I prefer to listen to the ABC pre and post game. Rabbits is OK but they need to do something about Gould interjecting asking him stupid questions. I don't mind Warren Smith either. The best of all for me is being at the game and listening to what is happening on the field through the sportsears.

TV - Rabs and Vossy tie for me - rabs is a classic, and as someone pointed out, Vossy's enthusiasm for the game shines thruogh. I'd give warren smith is a close second, but chumpstains such as Daley do drag him down.

Radio - Grandstand ABC Coverage are the greatest by a country mile - with the exception of when they have NZ games and sub in the kiwis - they are the absolute pits when it comes to coverage

Warren Ryan could write more insightful observations on a postage stamp than the rest of the RL commentators combined, on 20 sheets of butchers paper. People roll around at Gould's feet as though he were the Messiah, that's the tragedy of Ryan's low profile

Concur with the kiwi commentantor's, they are awful and so biased.

I think Rabbits is rubbish.
I love Darryl Eastlake! Of the modern TV callers I like Warren Smith most.
I dont really like the grandstand commentry team, they dont build excitement enough, agree that WOK has great analysis, he is a little condescending and very arrogant, and that annoys me, that said, he is clearly the best media analyst. I also like Ben Ikin's analysis.

warren smith and david morrow for mine with expert comments from warren ryan would the best combo.

andrew voss is a clown and sterlo's " expert " comments are sooooo predicatble

I can't go past Rabbits. To me he is the best and what I've grown up to.
I don't mind Mark Braybrook and I am a bit each way with Warren Smith and Andrew Voss.

Gus, well his analysis is very good and he can be entertaining, but it does wear thin when he repeats things over and over and shows his agenda's. I agree with Blackpearl, Sterlo's comments are so predictable 'Never rush up on Lockyer on 5th tackle' is the one he always said.
