Favourite album?

Doing paper work and rocking out to some great tunes has prompted me to pose the question….what is your favourite album? Not talking about the one you think is the best, moreso which one do you infrequently listen to year after year, the one that soon as it starts you are transported back in time to where ever you were when you first heard it? You remember smells, feelings, tastes, people, places etc...

For me it was a record released in 1992 that was an intensely dark album full of songs that I instantly related to. It was a dark period of my life where I had blown my knee out 2 years previous, pretty much ending any chance at a footy career which found me as an aimless 18 year old joining the armed forces. I hated the world and wanted everyone to know it. I listened to this record over and over and know every lyric, riff, bass line and drum beat backwards. This album convinced me to learn the guitar and I just love it. As the years have gone by I still relate to the lyrics but with a different perspective.

The album is Alice In Chains - DIRT.

Would love to hear other peoples and their reasons.

Appetite For Destruction by GNR is one that always comes to mind. It takes me back to when i was 4 yrs old and my cousin playing songs like Paradise City and Sweet Child, after that i was hooked for life :righton:

The Doors always take me back to when i was 17 and 18\. To say i became obsessed with them would be an understatement. I went through a period where it became more then just about the music, i looked for anything i could get my hands on books, doco's etc. Never been like that with any other band in my life.

Growing up I went through the stage of only all the cure, smiths, morrissey albums. Then along came an album called Ten by pearl jam. Blew my mind. Never got into nirvana much, I thought PJ were 10x better.

Changed my teenage years. I learnt to play drums and guitar because of this band. Highlight was traveling overnight by train as a 16 year old to watch them at eastern creek in the mid 90s

Toxicity - System of a Down
Greatest Hits - Pavarotti
DeRiguerMortis - TISM
Sinner - Drowning Pool

there are some others too

- Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger
- Faith No More - Angel Dust
- Queen - Sheer Heart Attack
- Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power
- The Whitlams - Eternal Nightcap

Queen have a number of underrated albums. Jazz and News Of The World most notably

Most intelligent and musically gifted group ever assembled.

I think you'd be hard pressed finding someone who'd disagree with your second statement.

I'd say the Beatles were, except Ringo was a weak link imo

Can listen all day to a few of these:

Pink Floyd - A Momentary Lapse of Reason
AC/DC - Back in Black
Powderfinger - Vulture Street

And possibly my all time favourite that takes me to a nice place:

Beatles didn't have the versatility, range and ability of Queen.

Freddie Mercury and Roger Taylor (in his earlier years) had two of the widest ranging vocal ranges in recorded music history.

The fact that all musicians could play more than two instruments each is also something rarely, if ever heard of.
Mercury (Piano, acoustic guitar)
May (Lead Guitar,piano)
Taylor (Bass guitar, lead guitar, piano, drums)
Deacon (Bass guitar, piano, drums)

and with the exception of Deacon, all were amazing vocalists.

Queen were on another level to the Beatles.

I rate Rolling Stones better than the Beatles too.

The first Album I bought was Deep Purple in Rock, still my favourite band, great singer and extremly talented musicians.

Stryker :master: Dirt is one of greatest albums ever & it takes me back to that era everytime i listen to it
loved that era Badmotorfinger-soundgarden was awesome and made me want to learn guitar
the first rage album still is a killer album & anything from mr bungle takes me straight back to the 90s everytime :righton:

Massive Doors fan like GNR Asking me what my favourite album is is like asking which of my kids I love the best Impossible to answer , but always had a soft spot for Morrison Hotel if that helps

I love music that tries to answer some of out everyday issues and U2 War album helped me want to look into my Irish ancestory and their struggles over the years

Another album I enjoyed for many years was Brother in Arms by Dire Straits still has a special spot in my life

Of my favourite Aussie album 10-1 by Midnight Oil helped me challenge my own thoughts and believes and always gave me the belief that it is always right to challenge what is wrong no matter how big the fight
