Favourite Campbelltown Stadium Moment

Given that there's been such a great response to the Leichhardt Oval memories thread I thought we should do the same for Campbelltown.

A couple of my favourites…

The WT's first ever try - John Skandalis at the Southern end in 00.
Benji Marshall's debut v Newcastle 03.

Going back to my car and finding the wheels still on it

But seriously it has to be the game against the Cowboys in 2005 when we assured ourselves the maiden finals appearance.

I agree about the cowboys game when pat richards kick off hit the goal post and rebounded to the field of play, i was sitting on the hill at the club end with Kul and water boy, as well as joel and the fanatatics, drinking schooners. Was a pretty good game. But i would have to say my best rememberance of campbelltown was the penrith game when we won 43-18.

First game for the Wests tigers against Brisbane would have to be mine. We were up by about 12 points at one stage only to score a late try for an 18 all draw. the crowd was going nuts and was a bit of a surreal feeling being a mad magpie supporter and coming to grips with now being the tigers. but 11 years on and its great to be a tiepie.

Marshall's field goal against the Titans. Actually my first trip to Campbelltown (I only arrived in Australia for the 2007 season). Freezing cold, not much of a game. Stood with my mate behind a hedge at the far end of the ground - ie in line with the sticks the field goal was kicked over. As the kick went up we looked at each other as if to say "WTF Benji?" then the disapproval rapidly turned to disbelief. The fact that that kick eventually won the game wasn't even really important.

First post, here goes…

- Benji's debut - he came on when we were towelling the knights, he put on a massive step, jumping about a foot in the air. Everyone was going who is this guy?? The gasp from the crowd was just about audible.

- 1995 - Tommy's first game as coach vs the steelers, I remember them spreading wide in the first set. The maggies skipped to a big lead and the "Tommy's a legend" chant went up. Ken McGuinness making breaks all over the place. John Simon pretty much played us on his own in the 2nd half and we held on by 2 to win at the end ( I think)

- 1988 - Last game of the year vs Manly, who had to win to make the finals, magpies down the bottom as usual. The coach dusted off the old fibros vs silvertails story and they played like men posessed. Graham McKay scoring a long range try, also Danny Peacock running through the guts. Managed to hang on with a dubious late try. Funniest thing was a guy yelling out "kick him in the guts" all game. Dale Shearer was coming back from a broken jaw - also kept calling out "break his jaw!!" every time he got the ball. Classic.

- 1992 - seriously though - my wallet fell out of my pocket with $200 in it and I didn't notice- a big islander handed it back with a smile... and all the $$ still there.

TP

Andrew Willis' FG against the Bears on the siren with the scores tied in 96 from halfway, that got the Maggies in the finals. I remember the playing surface getting mobbed AFL style afterwards. I was 10 and i think my dad threw me so high in the air, my head almost hit the roof of the stand

Tigers 50

Warriors 6.

That is all.

I'd have to agree with this. We were absolutely lethal that night. Geoff Daniela crossed three times in 20 minutes I think?

100% correct on that CB.

to quote Andrew Voss as he went over for his third of a barnstorming Ellis run- "and Geoff Daniella is having the finest night of his First Grade career!!"

I don't remember it being wet, but given the circumstances of the time of the game and yr and what it meant to the Maggies season, you won't see many better

It was just there, looking like a meccano set that would topple if more than 3 people sat in it.

Luckily that was never tested!!

1\. 1987 v the premiers parramatta. 33-16 victory. The shoe led the way, geelan, cogger, Freeman, fallah. Household names
2\. Season 91&92 we disposed of the broncos both years. Lindner, Gillespie, Taylor, Ainscough. The broncos hate coming to c'town.
3\. Season 96 the whole season was a standout but the win over manly was special with Tommy and singo in the corporate tent after the game.

Great first post TP I remember the 1988 Manly game for another reason Had a bet with a mate who was a Manly supporter and he gave me a 22 point start at $10 a point Showed up at the pub with the transistor radio just as the game was finishing to collect the winnings

Nothing better in the world than kicking Manly's butt
