Fifita reminds Blues Origin selectors

Wests Tigers rising star Andrew Fifita says he hasn't given up on earning a surprise NSW State of Origin jumper this series.

The 21-year-old might be considered a little raw for the step up to representative level, but the explosive prop believes he has the size and impact to spark a Blues team off the bench.

In Saturday night's 29-18 loss to South Sydney, Fifita played a leading role in the Tigers second half comeback.

The 194cm, 112kg giant is one of the most destructive tackle-breaking front rowers in the competition and leads the NRL's props in this category.

Fifita isn't getting ahead of himself and is conscious of biding his time in the NRL, but can't hide his drive to one day represent.

The Griffith product of Tongan heritage had already changed his allegiance from his parent's country of origin to be eligible for NSW.

"I'd love to play Origin. I've played for my country already and I've changed my alliance already and I just want to play Origin so bad. I reckon it's one of the biggest things that will ever happen in my life," Fifita told AAP.

"I guess I'm just trying to stick to form and just trying to get a gig. My eyes are set for the third Origin (match), see if I can get into that.

"Everyone adds their own little spark and I hope one day I can get in there and do my own thing and maybe, if they choose me, I can get in there and do a job (this year).

"But I've only played 31 games and I'm always going to put club footy first and wait for my opportunity to come."

Trailing 27-0 to the Rabbitohs at halftime, Fifita revealed senior players Robbie Farah and Benji Marshall tore strips off Tigers players in the dressing rooms at the break.

The Tigers defence through the middle of the field was flimsy to say the least.

Fifita said the young Tigers, without strong defenders Bryce Gibbs and Gareth Ellis, were better than what they showed against Souths.

"I guess it comes down to just working together. We're good, we are missing two of our main defence players, so it's just more the young ones who need to step up and stick tight and talk," he said.

"We made it pretty clear at halftime that we need to go out with a good hitout.

"It wasn't Sheensy (coach Tim Sheens who yelled). It was more the captain (Farah) and the older boys in the team telling us to step up. They had a bit of a yelling at us that we need to toughen up."

They said he had not met the deadline for this season hence his non selection in City V Country

I like Fifita, and i like the high aspirations he has. However, at the moment, i wouldnt even have him in our starting side let alone a Blues jersey. He's playing well and im happy with him, but i think Woods looks more like a starter to me than Fifita. Cant wait for Gibbs to come back.

He's hardly getting ahead of himself if you read his comments properly.

If he wants to play Origin he would best head elsewhere though. He is too destructive for our side. We prefer powderpuffs.

I like where Fifita's head is at, He is a leader and in a few years will be a Hannant type.

I didn't see the 1st half but as the article says he had a very solid 2nd half against souths.

That Kick and RUN was awesome

Hes better than Hannant, all he does is bash and barg, doesnt attempt to offlaod the ball at all, never ever. All the forwards where outplayed on saturday night by souffs and will need to step up against penwiff to beat them, luke lewis will have something to prove to the selectors on saturday night after being snubbed.

that is so funny he is so far away from it its not funny please haaahhhaaa

Yeh its really not that funny…. hes performing well this year and good on him for setting goals for himself nothing is Unachievable

It seems to me that Fifita and others should start playing well (and winning) with their own club before assuming they are Origin material :deadhorse:

Has the potential, but I can't see him getting a jersey this year. Weyman, Tolman, Hunt and Galloway are just the ones off the top of my head that would beat him to a jersey.

I can't imagine Sheens being too happy with what is said in this article - he usually prefers his young players to say very little.

He might be a chance for game 3… With the Blues new policy, Andrew might fit right in with his side to side running?!

Ironically, someone like Fifita would be a great asset off the bench if he gets his runs right. He's biggest concern is minutes played and his defence is somewhat lazy. Couple more years big fella!!!

You are kidding aren't you Fifita better than Hannant Hannant is one of the top 5 props in the game . Would swap any front rower bar Keefy in our forward pack for Hannant

Is this a April fools joke! No hang on where in June, bugger me he would be flat out getting a run at another club, oh hang on again, he is going to the Sharks. Please, some posters on need to take their Tiger Goggles off and get fair dinkum.

fifita is well suited to origin football. Its enivetable as ricky stuart has talked about him on a number of occasions. maybe he is the flavour of the month. played all over blair yesterday.
